In Harlem's heydays of the 1920's Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Cab Calloway gave joy and enjoyed life in Harlem. After the Great Depression Harlem was hard hit as was most of the country. In recent years Harlem has enjoyed a renewal. President Bill Clinton gave his endorsement when he recently chose Harlem for his offices.
