Top right picture is Confucius Plaza. The bronze statue is of the Chinese philosopher, 551-479 BC. At the bottom of the inscription you'll see an American flag. The Chinese of Chinatown proudly display the American flag. It's as if there aren't any language barriers, especially in these troubled times.
In our experience with Chinatown we've found that Canal Street (which we frequently show you) is the more Americanized of the streets in Chinatown. On the back streets you see less of the sidewalk sales but more of the true Chinese culture. There seems to be an abundance of hair salons, although we wouldn't suggest trying them out if you don't speak Chinese. The stores selling Chinese household merchandise are great for finding unusual and beautiful hand painted gifts.
