The Pink Teacup Restaurant
42 Grove Street between Bedford Street and Bleecker Street in the West Village. 212-807-6755. Average main course $12. This is a tiny little restaurant with portraits of some very famous people like Oprah that have dined there. The reason so many famous people eat here is that the food is good! Known for their fried chicken, great homemade desserts and hearty breakfast anytime of the day, including grits.

56 Ninth Avenue between West 14th and West 15th Street. 212-242-9040. Average main course $40. Founded in 1868. A Kobe steak is $110, but the porterhouse for two is $58. Dark old-fashioned décor, but great steaks in the Meat Packing District.
Bull & Bear
Waldorf Astoria Hotel, 570 Lexington Avenue at 49th Street. 212-872-4900. Average main course $32. This is everything you would expect in décor and food with its crystal chandeliers and ample portions. 28 ounce porterhouse charred just right or surf and turf of whole Maine lobster with filet mignon.

Japanese Restaurants
Nobu Restaurant
105 Hudson Street. 212-219-0500. Average main course $18. Japanese cuisine. High-powered New York and Hollywood clientele including friends of the partner Robert De Niro. A first-rate restaurant.
Taka
61 Grove Street between Bleecker Street and Seventh Avenue. 212-242-3699. This restaurant is always jammed and for good reason. Taka not only makes specialties like Mt. Fuji Roll, (inside out roll packed with spicy tuna and yellowtail); Taka serves the delicacies in her own stoneware that she fires in a home kiln. It's not your average Japanese Restaurant, it's much better.
