Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday May 19th 2005
Tiffany turned down the sound on the TV in her Bleecker Street apartment when she heard her phone ring. "Hello" she answered.
"How did it go? Is Jake in the shower now?" her sister Starlene asked referring to Tiffany's boss.
"No, he's gone home," Tiffany said in a disappointed voice.
"Did you guys do it last night?"
"No."
"What happened?"
"He went over the set up on my new computer and said I had really learned a lot."
"You set the computer up in the bedroom like I told you to?"
"Yes, but it didn't do any good."
"Did you unbutton a few of the buttons on your blouse so that the lace showed?"
"Yes, three buttons. I saw him glance at the lace."
"That's good!"
"Yeah, but when he looked up and our eyes met he looked away."
"Gee, that always works for me."
"I don't think I have a chance with him."
"You have to try again. Have you heard anything from Skeeter?" Starlene asked referring to Tiffany's jealous natured ex-husband and next door neighbor that was attending a trade show in Atlanta.
"No, but you remember me telling you about his gay sales clerk Amanda?"
"Sure."
"She came up the stairs in the hallway as Jake was walking out of the front door. I think she might have overheard us talking about drinking wine together last night."
"Did you ask her if she heard you?"
"No. But she acted weird. She even made a pass at me, I think."
"Think? She either did or she didn't."
"I guess she did. I've never had a gay woman make a pass at me."
"What did she do?"
"She told me I looked 'hot,' as if I were dressed up to go out. Then she asked me to go out with her."
"That hot statement does sound like a pass."
"I think so too."
"So what did you say?"
"That I was tired and had to work. She didn't like that too much. She put the key in his door and went inside."
"Maybe you should stop by the lingerie store this morning and see if she's angry."
"You think so?"
"You've got to. If she saw Jake leaving and heard you guys talking about drinking wine, then she'll tell Skeeter."
"I knew I shouldn't have tried to make a pass at Jake. I just knew something would happen," Tiffany said her voice filled with panic.
"Don't get too worried. She won't tell."
"You don't know that Starlene."
"Well if it gets too bad I guess you could always go out with Amanda," Starlene said laughing.
"Stop it! This isn't funny. You know Skeeter has a terrible temper. If she mentions this to him, he'll kill me and Jake both."
"I'll stop by Skeeter's lingerie shop this morning and feel her out... talk to her" Starlene said correcting her expression.
