Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday May 9th 2005 "Tiffany I'm leaving for the afternoon. Please take messages," her new boss Jake said as he walked past her towards the office door. "I'll see you tomorrow," Tiffany said excited that she'd have the office alone this afternoon. She watched through the glass windows of the offices in the Empire State Building. She saw him step into the elevator and the door closed. She glanced through the windows of her sister's husband's offices across the hallway. She saw Starlene sitting at the receptionist's desk. She waved at her sister when their eyes met. She watched as Starlene called out something to her husband and then got up from the desk and walked across the hall. "Hi," Tiffany said as Starlene walked into the office and took a seat in the chair near Tiffany's desk. "Jake's gone for the entire afternoon. Tell me what did Stanley say about his lunch with Jake?" Tiffany asked dying to know if Jake was single and available. "Plenty," Starlene said. "What? Is Jake single?" "Yes, Jake is single and he's never been married." "Good. That's great. Does he have a girlfriend?" "I don't know," Starlene said. "What? I thought Stanley was going to ask Jake that question. That's why he went to lunch with him," Tiffany said unable to hide her disappointment. "Well, he didn't exactly get to ask him." "What's the matter? You seem upset." "Jake said something to Stanley about me bringing him my modeling pictures this morning." "Stanley was upset about it?" Tiffany asked. "Yeah. He didn't let Jake know he was upset but I think he's really mad at me." "I told you that you should have said something to Stanley about that," Tiffany reminded her. "Well, I didn't. So I had to show copies to Stanley and he was kinda upset over what I was wearing in the pictures." "I'm sorry that he's angry with you Starlene," Tiffany said not wanting to tell her that she'd been right all along. "He told me that I shouldn't have posed in a string bikini if I want to get cast by Jake's agency," Starlene said pouting. "Most of the models bring in head shots, nothing like your pictures," Tiffany said remembering the risqué pictures her sister had shown him. "Well, I believe you have to show em' what you got. If they want to use it all, they know it's there," Starlene said defensively. "Are you and Stanley okay now?" "Yeah, we're okay. I'll make him feel better when we get home tonight," Starlene said raising her eyebrows. "I wish Stanley could have found out more for me," Tiffany said. "He did ask him about Nina," Starlene said referring to the model that seemed to have a close relationship with Jake. "What did he say?" "Stanley just said something about all the models he'd seen coming and going but he noticed one that was here a few times." "What did Jake say?" "He said you must mean Nina." "And what did Jake say to that?" "He said Nina was a close friend. Stanley thinks the relationship is just friendly," Starlene said. "That's great! I hope Stanley's right. I wish he'd ask more questions," Tiffany said. She felt only a little more hopeful she might be able to have a personal relationship with her boss. "But he said Jake didn't believe in personal relationships with his models." "Models, models, but what about his receptionist?" Tiffany said tapping her long nails on her desk. CONTINUED TOMORROW.
