Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday March 2nd 2005 Tiffany opened the door to "Next to Nothing" on Bleecker Street. She glanced around her ex-husband's lingerie store. "Hey Baby, what you doin' here?" he asked in his slow southern accent. She admired his familiar swagger as he walked towards the front of the store where she was standing. She realized that he attracted her now just as much as he had the first time she saw him years ago. "Oh nothing. I just had dinner with Starlene and thought I would stop by," she said referring to her sister. She didn't want him to know she and Starlene had seen him leaving the Chinese Restaurant where they were dining. She glanced at his desk to see if she could spot the two Styrofoam dinner containers they had seen him leaving the restaurant with only a few minutes ago. She didn't see them there among the thong catalogs and Starbucks' coffee cups that were scattered about the glass desktop. "You went out to dinner with Starlene? How's she doing?" he asked. "Great. Starlene is great," she said as her eyes traveled around the store looking for signs of the dinner containers. "I might close early tonight if business doesn't pick up," he said patting the red velvet sofa for her to take a seat beside him. His eyes traveled her tight sweater and the short black leather skirt she was wearing as she tossed her coat on a nearby chair before taking a seat beside him on the sofa. "Is business slow?" she asked as he watched her tug at her skirt, which barely covered her shapely thighs. "Yeah, it's pretty slow. I let Amanda go home early tonight," he said referring to his gay salesclerk. "What time did she go home?" "A few minutes ago," he said. "Oh." "Yeah, it's her anniversary." "With her girlfriend?" Tiffany asked. "Yeah, I'll never understand but she does a good job here." "Oh, that's good." "So what brings you by Baby?" "Just visiting," she said grinning at him. "You sure that's all you're here for?" he asked leaning closer to her. "Well, Starlene and I were in the restaurant when you came in Skeeter." "Why didn't you invite me over to the table?" he asked genuinely surprised since he hadn't seen the sisters there. "When we looked up, you were paying for two dinners to-go." "So you came by here to see if I was with somebody else, didn't you?" "Yeah," she admitted looking down and smiling. "Well, the dinners were for Amanda and her wife." "Good." "So how about I just close up the shop and we'll go upstairs," he said kissing her lightly on the cheek. "No. We can't do that Skeeter," she said as her smile faded and she raised her eyebrows at him. "Why not?" "I have two roommates now. You know? I have Double D Deanna, the stripper you rented my spare bedroom to while I was in Georgia visiting Mama. And now I have your former roommate Mafia Vinny living with me," she said leaning back on the sofa as if merely putting the situation into words was too exhausting for her. "Then we can go to my place," he said. He allowed his hand to skillfully glide along her thigh as his fingers caressed her silky black stockings. "Yeah, I guess we could Skeeter," she said smiling and looking up at him. "Well, why not?" "Let me ask you something Skeeter," she said as her expression took on a familiar seriousness that always made him uncomfortable. "What?" "Since your roommate has taken over my apartment... what if I kinda move into yours?" she asked tossing her head to one side and giving him a flirtish grin. CONTINUED TOMORROW.
