Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Tuesday January 11th 2005 Tiffany took a sip of her Diet Coke as she watched her noontime soap operas on TV. The phone rang on the coffee table and she picked up the remote and muted the TV before answering. "Hello," she said. "Is Deanna home?" a strange man asked. "Who's calling?" Tiffany asked her voice filled with suspicion. "I need to know if Deanna is home." "I need to know who is calling." Tiffany demanded. "Look lady this is an official phone call. Just tell me whether Deanna is there or not," he said sternly. "Are you a friend of hers?" "No. I've never met her. I told you this is an official call." "What does official mean exactly?" "It means it's not your business but hers." "What kind of business?" "What's your problem lady? Is Deanna your roommate or not?" "Yes, she's my roommate. I just want to know who you are and why you're calling her." "Look Miss, you ask a lot of questions. Maybe I'm a detective and I should be asking the questions. It's really none of your business, now is it?" he said slamming the phone down. "I knew it!" Tiffany said out loud. She quickly glanced at the caller ID and it said 'anonymous'. She hit speed dial and listened as the phone rang. "Morgan residence," the housekeeper answered. "This is Tiffany could I speak to Starlene please?" "Yes Miss Diamond, hold on," the housekeeper said. "Hi! What's going on?" Starlene said. "A man called and he wouldn't tell me his name. He was looking for Deanna. I questioned him repeatedly and he finally said he was a detective," Tiffany said as her voice quivered in excitement. "Have you ever heard his voice before?" "Nope." "Do you think he is a detective?" "That's what he said Starlene!" "So what are you going to do now?" "I'm calling the police." "Are you sure?" "Yeah. I can't live here anymore not knowing what's going on." "What if it it's all innocent though." "Come on Starlene! You saw that big box of money in Deanna's closet. How can that be innocent?" "I don't know." "I feel trapped in this apartment. I don't know where Deanna is and I'm afraid to leave. I'm afraid somebody will break in and steal all the money." "Or worse yet maybe she stole the money and that man is looking for it," Starlene said. "You're right! What if the money was stolen and they're looking for it? They might break in here and kill me," Tiffany said gasping for breath. "Do you want me to come over?" "No, I don't want you in danger. I think you're right! I think somebody is looking for the money and they know it's here. I have to call the police," Tiffany said getting up and pacing the living room with the phone. CONTINUED TOMORROW.
