3/4 cup sugar 2 tablespoons flour 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon salt 5 cups apples 1/4 cup water 1 tablespoon butter
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt. Mix with apples; place in ovenproof casserole. Sprinkle with water. Dot with butter. Cover with foil and bake 15 minutes.
Crust: 1 cup flour 1 tablespoon sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 3 tablespoons shortening 1/2 cup milk
Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together. Cut in shortening; stir in milk. Drop by spoonfuls on hot apples. Bake, uncovered, 25 to 35 minutes. Makes 6 servings.
