Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Friday July 16th 2004 Starlene closed her tiny cell phone and started to put it back in her purse. She glanced up as Vinny opened the car door and started to get back into the new red Ferrari after refueling at the service station on the West Side. "You called your sister Tiffany?" he asked noticing the phone she was putting into her purse. "No." "I thought you would have called her to tell her we're having fun." "No, she'll be mad at me," Starlene said. "Oh. She'll get over it." "I called Stanley," she confessed. "I see. I thought maybe that's who you was talking to," he said in his thick Brooklyn accent. "I wasn't going to ask you though," he said smiling. "That's sweet of you Vinny," she said looking down at the wedding gown draped on her lap. "You looks all depressed." "Yeah. Stanley was really angry. He said I humiliated him." "He didn't beg you to come back to him?" he asked hoping he was playing his cards right. "No! He was more upset over being humiliated in public." "I'd stand in front of the world and take my chances on you Starlene," he said grinning as he realized he'd played the right cards. "That's more than Stanley's going to do. I don't even think he's going to marry me now," she said as tears started to roll down her cheeks and make lines in her makeup. "Now, now," he said reaching over and wiping her tears with his big hands. "There baby. Maybe it's the best thing Starlene," he said eyeing her voluptuous bosom in the low cut top she was wearing. "How can it be the best thing? Here I am with my wedding gown. I was moving my stuff back to his place. He's canceled the wedding again, just because of a little car ride," she said looking around at the expensive car. "How's about you and me go for some dinner?" "I don't know," she said shaking her head. "I know a man that owns this little restaurant on Mulberry Street in Little Italy," he said thinking about his friends. "I don't know. It's kinda early for dinner," she said noticing it was only two o'clock. "I mean after we go shopping," he said watching her closely. "Shopping? I've got a wedding gown draped over my arm, my suitcases packed and a mess on my hands and you talk about shopping?" "I know this man that has a store in the Diamond District. We could look around a little." "Diamond District?" she asked raising her eyebrows as she brushed her long blonde hair from her eyes. "Yeah. I don't like my woman wearing another man's ring. I want you to pick out something bigger and better," he said grinning. "You mean like a diamond ring?" "Yeah a diamond ring," he said as someone blew the horn in the car behind him at the gas pump. "I don't know," she said as he started the engine and the car moved towards the street. "I know you'll never want for anything the rest of your life cause I'll give it to you Starlene. I'll love you forever," he said earnestly as he moved out into the traffic. "But what about your job and everything?" she said referring to his job as assistant to a Mafia boss in Florida.
