Stanley called out into his cell phone as he sat in the back of his long white limousine in traffic on Sixth Avenue. There wasn't a sound on the other end of the line after she hung up on him. "You get cut off?" the limo driver asked noticing the beads of perspiration on the older man's face. "No, I think she hung up on me. I must have said the wrong thing. Oh no, what am I going to do now?" Stanley murmured as his cell phone started to ring again. "That must be her," he said as he opened his phone and eagerly put it to his ear. "Hello," he said his voice filled with urgency. "Stanley, have you heard from Starlene?" Tiffany asked. "Yes, she just phoned me. Have you talked to her?" he asked. "No. I've been waiting. What did she say when she called you? Is she okay?" "She sounds okay," he said regretting how the conversation had ended. "I've tried calling her cell phone and she doesn't answer. Where was she?" Tiffany asked as she paced the floor of her living room and Skeeter sat on the sofa watching her as he drank his beer. "I don't know." "You don't know. You talked to her. Didn't you ask her where she was?" "No it didn't get that far," he said as his voice trailed off in pain. "What do you mean? Oh no! He wasn't hurting her or something," Tiffany asked referring to Vinny. "No. We got into an argument on the phone," Stanley said as the limo started to make it's way in the traffic. "Did you ask her when she's coming home?" "No." "Did you ask if she was okay?" "No." "Did you ask her if she was coming back to my apartment or over to your house?" "No." "Well what did you talk about?" "We argued Tiffany. Look I was upset the way she humiliated me on the sidewalk. That seemed to have angered her that I was humiliated." "Did you tell her you were worried about her?" "Not exactly." "Well, I can see how she'd be upset then," Tiffany said starting to pace the floor again. "I know. I guess I didn't choose the right words," Stanley confessed. "I don't think so. Did you tell her you love her and still want to marry her?" "Not exactly." "Did she ask you if you were going to marry her?" "Yes." "What did you say Stanley?" Tiffany asked starting to become annoyed with the older man. "That I didn't know how I could now after she had cheated on me twice and publicly humiliated me." "What did she say?" "She hung up on me," he said as his voice cracked in pain. "Was she still with Vinny?" "I don't know I just heard the phone click." "How could you let this happen? She's all upset now and she's in the car with a man that works for the Mafia. How do we know what might happen now? She's got her wedding gown with her and Skeeter says Vinny would marry her in a minute," Tiffany said as tears came to her eyes. CONTINUED TOMORROW.
