Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Tuesday June 29th 2004 "Would you like another bottle of wine?" the waiter asked Stanley. "Yes, bring us another bottle," Stanley said as he glanced at his daughter Jan across the table at the Upper East Side restaurant. "Father I'm glad we could have dinner tonight. I just dreaded going home to the empty house," she said shaking her head. "Skeeter hasn't lived in the house with you for a few months now," he said referring to her husband. "I know. But tonight it just seems more final than ever," she said referring to the divorce papers she delivered to his store today. "So did he gloat over the big settlement?" Stanley asked resentfully. "He was pleased. It was a huge amount of money for a short marriage." "It would have only gotten worse. I'm glad to get rid of him. Next time I hope you'll listen to me." "Oh don't start the I told you so's. Spare me, please," she said as the waiter opened the bottle of wine and poured a small amount for Stanley's approval. "It's good," Stanley said as the waiter filled their glasses. "Well, I guess Skeeter gave you back your Park Avenue Society Membership directory." "Yes, he did. I hope he didn't copy any of the member's names." "Well, that's why we have the clause in there. Did he notice it?" "No. He signed and smiled. He's happy with the big settlement and the store." "You certainly didn't want any part of that sleazy store." "No, I'm sick of the place." "Now you don't have to pay that gay sales girl of his to spy on him for you either. I bet she'll be all upset when she finds out you won't be padding her pockets anymore," he said referring to Amanda. "No, actually I have retained her," Jan said as she sipped her wine. "Why?" "Just curious to see what he does next. I don't know. It's just hard to let go," she said hoping she wouldn't cry. "Let's change the subject. What's going on in your life Father?" "I do have news. Starlene and I have made up and she'll be moving back into my house soon," he said bracing for her reaction. "Oh great! I thought you had come to your senses! I can't believe you're letting that little harlot move back in." "Oh come on Jan. She's young. I have to forgive her for seeing that Marco guy. He lied to her and took advantage of her." "It must not be too hard to take advantage of a woman that poses for Playbody Magazine," Jan sneered. "He told her he was single but he was married. She had waited for me to set the wedding date for a year and I was dragging my feet. I have to give her a break," he said hoping he was doing the right thing. "Oh! So did you promise to marry her now?" "I told her if things work out for a while then we'll get married. Yes," he said trying to sound more convincing. "Father this will be the biggest mistake you've ever made in your life." "Thanks for the vote of confidence." "Father as soon as another man comes along and offers her a better deal, more money or a job modeling for another girly magazine…she'll be gone," Jan said shaking her head in disgust. "Starlene loves me," he said. "She loves your money." "Like Skeeter loved yours?" he said noticing that the men at the next table were listening. "I'll be the one telling you I told you so. You'll see," she said in a hushed voice. "At least I'll have a good time," he said. "I'm getting older. I may as well enjoy the last few years I've got." "She might be the death of you too," Jan said as the men at the next table started to whisper and grin. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE SOAP PHOTOS BELOW.
