Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday June 9th 2004
The phone rang on Tiffany's desk at work and she quickly picked it up. "Manhattan Party Planning," she answered as she gazed at her computer screen on her desk.
"Hi Tiffany," her sister Starlene said as she leaned back on the sofa of Tiffany's Bleecker Street apartment.
"How did it go when you went by Stanley's office?"
"I confronted him with everything Skeeter told us about Lola. He denied it," she said as she put her feet up on Tiffany's coffee table.
"Do you believe him?"
"I guess I'll have to. Although, I talked to his receptionist. She said Lola stopped by the office that day before he took her to lunch. She said it was innocent. She said that Lola and Stanley had been friends for many years. But she said one thing that really worried me."
"What's that?"
"She said that Lola and Stanley almost got married back years ago. He never told me they were close to marriage. That was shocking."
"Yeah, well what about what Skeeter told us. About Jan saying she stopped by her father's house and caught him with Lola. Jan said they were going at it 'hot and heavy'. What did Stanley say about that?" Tiffany asked remembering her ex-husband and neighbor's words the other night.
"He denied it totally."
"Oh so that's the end of it then?"
"Yeah, that's the end of that part of it."
"So you believe him?"
"Well, I guess I have to," Starlene said shaking her head.
"Why is that?"
"Because he found out a lot more about the things I'd been up to."
"Like what Starlene?"
"He knew Marco's name. He knew that Marco lives in our building."
"You confessed?" Tiffany asked.
"No. Jan told him everything."
"Jan?"
"Yeah can you believe it?"
"How does Jan know?" Tiffany said hesitating. "Oh, I see," she said as the realization hit her. "Skeeter and Jan are really talking a lot," she said referring to her ex-husband that lives next door to her. Their relationship had become very intimate in recent weeks after he swore he was divorcing Jan.
"Yeah, I think you need to talk to Skeeter and tell him to keep his big mouth shut," Starlene said. "Matter of fact. I think I'm going to call him myself," Starlene said.
"I guess that's it for me and Skeeter too. I thought he was telling me the truth when he said he wasn't talking to Jan anymore and they were divorcing. I should have known he was lying to me again," Tiffany said as her voice trailed off in pain.
"I think I can find out right now," Starlene said.
"What are you talking about?" Tiffany asked.
"I just heard him open the door to his apartment," Starlene said as she listened to the sounds in the hallway.
"So what are you going to do?" Tiffany asked.
"Go over to Skeeter's apartment and get the truth out of him once and for all," she said hanging up the phone.
"But Starlene," Tiffany said as the phone clicked in her ear.
