I haven't seen you in a long time," Stanley's receptionist said. She watched the voluptuous young blonde walk into the lobby of Stanley's office in the Empire State Building. "Hi. Yeah, I've been really busy," Starlene said in her thick southern accent. "I guess you're working on your wedding plans," the receptionist asked eyeing the large diamond on Starlene's finger. "I don't know. Stanley and I have been living apart for a while," Starlene said wishing she could control the pain in her voice. "Oh. I didn't know." "I thought you probably did know. Yeah, I moved out a while back when Stanley wouldn't commit to marriage. Then things seemed to get crazy," she said raising her eyebrows. "I'm sorry Starlene," the receptionist said remembering her own many disappointments with men. "Actually I was wondering... "Starlene said hesitating to go on. "What?" "Have you seen any other women coming into the office lately?" "Well. I don't know... " she said not wanting to admit she had. "It really would mean a lot to me if you told me. I won't tell him." "Well, please don't say anything because I don't want to lose my job," she said. "Sure." "Lola Rogers stopped by the other day and they went out to lunch together." "Uh ah," Starlene said raising her eyebrows. "But he's known her for years. They almost got married a long time ago." "All the more reason for me to worry," Starlene said. "I don't think so." "Is he in his office now?" "Yeah." "I want to surprise him, so don't buzz him," Starlene said walking towards the hallway. "I think he really loves you Starlene," the receptionist said worried about what Starlene might say to her boss. Starlene approached Stanley's door and noticed it was ajar. She tiptoed closer and stood near the door as she listened to his voice. "I don't know Lola," he said as he sat at his desk with his phone on his shoulder looking down at the view from his window in the Empire State Building. Starlene inched a little closer to the door to listen. "Look Lola I didn't say anything like that. Why would I say that?" Starlene held her breath as she listened. "Lola you know how I feel about you. You know I'd never do anything to hurt you. We've got a long history together. I hope we have many more years together. Don't let Starlene upset you like this." Starlene fought the urge to push the door open and walk in screaming. "Lola I wouldn't do anything to hurt you. I don't know why Starlene called you last night at home," he said hesitating. "I took her to "Tavern on the Green" restaurant and we talked everything over. If anything I thought she was over her suspicions of you and me," he said waiting to listen to Lola's response. "She's young Lola. Too young for me, I guess." He paused listening to Lola's response. "I can assure you it's over with," Stanley said as he turned his leather chair around when he heard his office door swing open and hit the wall with force. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE SOAP PHOTOS BELOW.
