Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday May 12th 2004
Starlene picked up the remote to the TV and turned down the sound when she heard the front door of the apartment open. "Hi Tiffany," she said quickly taking her feet off her sister's coffee table.
"Hi Starlene," Tiffany said tossing her purse on the table beside the door then locking it behind her.
"How was your evening with Amir? I'm surprised to see you home. I thought the two of you would be hot and heavy all night," Starlene said as she watched Tiffany walk towards the sofa to take a seat beside her.
"Oh Starlene," Tiffany said moaning as she took a seat on the sofa and rested her head on the back.
"What's the matter? It didn't go too good did it?" Starlene asked watching Tiffany put her hand on her forehead in an act of desperation.
"No, it was nothing like I had expected," Tiffany said sitting up on the sofa and looking towards her sister.
"What happened?"
"Of all the things I never expected. Amir asked me to marry him," Tiffany said as her heart raced just remembering his words.
"Oh my gosh!" Starlene gasped slapping her legs. "We can have a double wedding!"
"No! It's not like that. I told him no," Tiffany said before biting her lip.
"Are you crazy?" Starlene asked frowning.
"No. I told him about Skeeter. I told him that Skeeter had moved next door and we have started seeing each other again," she said remembering how shocked Amir had been over the revelation of the love affair.
"Oh Tiffany. That was a big mistake."
"Don't say that," she said knowing Starlene might be right but not wanting to admit it.
"It was. I mean how do you know Skeeter has changed?"
"He told me he has. He promised me," she said wringing her hands together.
"Tiffany, that was a big mistake. I think you should have agreed to marry Amir."
"Starlene I love Skeeter. I've always loved Skeeter."
"But Skeeter was a playboy the entire time you were married to him that's why you left him and moved to New York. Remember?"
"Of course I remember. But I never stopped loving him. Things are different now," she said remembering Skeeter's words.
"What's different? He's married to Jan now, that's different."
"He's trying to divorce her and he will."
"That's a big risk to take. He might not ever divorce her either," Starlene said shaking her head in regret.
"Do you know something I don't know?" Tiffany asked referring to the fact that Jan's married to Starlene's older lover Stanley.
"No, it's not that. It's just that Skeeter doesn't have any money Tiffany and Amir's loaded!"
"Is money the only thing that means anything to you Starlene?" Tiffany snapped.
"No..." she said hesitating as she wondered.
"It's just not the most important thing to me. Love is more important," Tiffany said.
"Oh pleasssee!"
"Oh please what? What do you mean?" Tiffany said clearly annoyed.
"Both of them have cheated. Why not choose the rich one," Starlene said disgusted with her sister's decision.
