Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Friday April 23rd 2004 Tiffany heard the knock on her apartment door as she stood in the living room looking out of the window at Bleecker Street below. She just saw her sister's lover Stanley get out of his long white limo in front of her building. Starlene had just gotten into a cab with her new boyfriend Marco and left to go on their first dinner date. Tiffany wondered if Stanley had seen Starlene and Marco getting into the cab when his limo pulled up behind them. She would soon know as she walked towards the front door of her apartment and opened it. "Hi Tiffany," Stanley said as he stood in the doorway waiting to be invited in. "Stanley. Hi. What a surprise." "Yeah, I know Starlene said she didn't want me to stop by tonight but I was right here in front of the building," he said smiling as she motioned for him to come inside. "Yeah, she just left," Tiffany said realizing that Stanley hadn't seen Starlene getting into the cab with Marco only seconds before his limo pulled up. "Well, I hope you don't mind," he said as she walked to the sofa and took a seat. "No, it's okay," she lied watching him take a seat in the chair nearby. He put a small gift-wrapped box on the coffee table. "I came to give her a present. Just a little something to hold her until I can get everything straight," he said referring to Starlene's ultimatum to get married or live apart. "Oh. Do you want to leave it here for her?" "Don't you think she'll be back in a minute? I thought the two of you were going to dinner." "No. I changed my mind. I think she's doing some shopping," Tiffany lied. "Well, since I'm here we may as well visit," he said leaning back in the chair. "It's nice to see you Stanley." "You too Tiffany. I guess Starlene has told you all about our little 'time out', he said referring to her leaving him because he wouldn't commit to marriage. "Yeah." "She really wants to get married." "I know," Tiffany said. "I really love her." "So are you going to marry her?" "I worry that she's way too young." "Stanley you've known that Starlene was young for years now. It hasn't made any difference." "But I'm old enough to be her Father… I'm old enough to be...," he stopped himself thinking the words were too hard to bear. "I don't think the age has made any difference to her," Tiffany said. "I know, not now. But what about later when I'm really old?" he said. "She'll be older too," Tiffany said smiling. "You're so thoughtful Tiffany. Do you want me to marry your sister?" he asked as he placed the small gift box on the coffee table. "Oh that's up to the two of you." "I really love her. I know I have to make up my mind before she decides to give up on me." "Yeah," Tiffany said thinking he was already too late. "I'm not going to let this drag on too long. I know a woman like Starlene won't be out there long. She's one in a million," he said glancing up when he heard a knock on the door. "Excuse me," Tiffany said getting up and walking towards the front door. She opened the peephole and saw her ex-husband and next door neighbor Skeeter in the hallway. Her heart raced as she realized she had to open the door and Stanley would see his son-in-law at her door. She decided to try and open the door only a little and signal to Skeeter that Stanley was in the living room. She eased the door open and started to stick her head out when she heard Skeeter say "Hey Baby, I'm in the mood for love. Which apartment tonight? My place or yours?" CONTINUED MONDAY.
