Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday April 7th 2004 Ilona opened the door to Jan's Upper East Side mansion and smiled when she saw Jan's father Stanley. "Good morning Mr. Morgan," Ilona said. "Is Jan still here?" Stanley asked. "Miss Morgan in kitchen," she said in her broken English as she closed the door after he walked in. He started towards the kitchen as the plump housekeeper followed him. He walked into the kitchen and saw Jan at the bar reading the New York Times as she sipped her morning coffee. "Good Morning," Stanley said as she put the newspaper down on the bar and stared at her Father. "What on earth brings you here this early in the morning?" Jan asked. "I thought maybe you'd still be home," he said. "Ilona get Father some coffee," Jan said as Stanley took a seat at the bar beside her. "How is everything?" Stanley asked. "I've closed several more deals. It's going good I suppose. How about with you?" "Okay." "And Starlene?" she asked raising her eyebrows as she thought about his much younger live in lover. "We're separated," he admitted as Ilona put a coffee mug down on the bar in front of him. "Oh. My! That's big news. It's about time. What happened?" "She left me." "Oh. For another wealthy man I suppose." "No, nothing like that. She just wants to get married and I haven't agreed yet, so she packed up and left." "Well, that's great news. I know several ladies that have wanted to have dinner with you," she said thinking about the gray haired ladies that had inquired about him many times. "I'm not on the market, yet." "It's time to come to your senses Father. She's not right for you. She's just a gold digger. What can she possibly offer you," she said brushing her dark hair from her face. "I didn't come here to discuss Starlene." "Well, what did you come here for so early in the morning? Oh! Did you get the deed to my house all done in Skeeter's name?" she asked referring to her request that he have his lawyer draw up a deed to her mansion giving it to her estranged husband. "Most certainly not," Stanley said. "Well, what then?" "I think you're the one that needs to think about what you're doing Jan." "Look Father I'm married to Skeeter. The two of us might being having a few difficulties but at least he's committed to me," she said as she adjusted the large diamond engagement ring on her finger that she had bought when they became engaged. "So where is your husband?" "I've told you he stays with friends uptown occasionally." "I don't think Skeeter is staying uptown," Stanley said raising his eyebrows. He thought about the surprised expression on Skeeter's face this morning. The two men had run into each other in the hallway of the apartment building when he'd gone to see Starlene at Tiffany's apartment. "What do you mean?" "Jan I think you better file for the divorce instead of giving any thought to deeding this house to him in hopes that will make him stay with you." "What are you implying? I think I can handle my affairs and my husband," she snapped. "Okay. What if you found out Skeeter wasn't staying with friends?" "What are you saying Father?" CONTINUED TOMORROW.
