Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday March 29th 2004
The waitress placed the Diet Delight platters on the table where the two sisters were seated in the Washington Square Diner.
"Well go ahead and answer your phone Tiffany," Starlene said as Tiffany held her ringing cell phone in her hand.
"I don't know what I'll say if he's back in town," she said after seeing Amir's number on the caller ID.
"Anything else for you ladies?" the waitress asked.
"No thanks", Starlene said as Tiffany opened her tiny cellphone to answer.
"Hello," Tiffany said.
"Tiffany, I call you at work but Nicole say you have lunch," Amir said in his broken English.
"Hi Amir. How are you?"
"I have news for you my love."
"What's that?" Tiffany asked as she glanced up to see Starlene watching her closely as she picked at her tuna with a fork.
"I arrive in New York tonight," he said.
"Oh wow. Tonight?"
"Yes. First thing I hope is to hold you in my arms," he said remembering her long blonde hair and curvy figure.
"Oh tonight," Tiffany said tapping her nails on the booth and frowning as Starlene looked on.
"You are busy, no?"
"No. I don't think so. I'm not sure. I mean Starlene might be coming over," she said as she watched Starlene shake her head in agreement.
"You wish to see your sister first. I stay gone too long."
"It's just that Starlene and Stanley have been fighting and I don't know if she's coming over to stay with me or not."
"I call you when I arrive to New York and you tell me then, no?"
"Yes, that would be better."
"I miss you my love," he said in his sexiest voice.
"Yes, it's been a long time Amir."
"Too long. I hope I see you tonight," he said as he hung up the phone.
Tiffany closed her tiny cell phone and placed it on the booth beside her Diet Delight platter.
"Well?" Starlene asked.
"I didn't give him an answer. I don't know what to do. I just don't know what to do," she repeated.
"Well, go to his house."
"I guess so. But what if Skeeter comes over and knocks on my door and I'm not home," she said referring to her ex-husband that had just moved into the apartment next door. The couple had recently revived their love affair after he promised he was divorcing his second wife Jan.
"Look Tiffany you and Skeeter are just getting started again. Why don't you tell Skeeter you need more time?" Starlene suggested.
"You know Skeeter. He's not going to put up with me stalling him."
"Want me to come over to your apartment and stay while you go to Amir's?"
"What good would that do?"
"Well if Skeeter calls or comes by I could stall him and that would give you time to call and explain."
"That is an idea," she said shaking her head as she considered her options.
"I could just tell him that you're in the shower or that you just stepped out and I'm waiting in the apartment for you. Then I could call you at Amir's and you could call Skeeter," she said shrugging her shoulders. "Besides maybe I should use this as an opportunity to give Stanley a kick in the rear too," she said referring to the fact she planned on making him think she was going to leave him if he didn't commit to marriage.
"Oh boy. This is going to be a big night," Tiffany said.
