Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Tuesday March 16th 2004 "Skeeter you're late getting home", Jan said as she walked towards the front door of her mansion to greet her husband. "Yeah, some customers came in the store late," he lied. He thought about the time that he'd spent with his ex-wife Tiffany. "Well, where was Amanda?" she asked referring to the gay salesgirl she had hired to work in his lingerie store and keep an eye on him. "I let her go home early," he said as he closed the door and took off his jacket tossing it over a chair. "Why?" she asked as she followed him into the living room of her mansion. "I get sick of having her around. I'd like to fire her." "No, don't do that. It was a lot of trouble interviewing all of the applicants for that position." "Maybe I should interview myself. I mean why do you think you have to be the one to interview?" "I pay the salary, that's why," she said taking a seat on the sofa and pouring drinks from the decanter on the coffee table. "I'm making enough money that I can afford to hire my own help now," he said taking the drink she offered him and sipping it loudly. "Well, I wouldn't get too carried away," she said smugly. "It's the truth," he said thinking about the money that he'd made modeling underwear for the billboard in Times Square. "I know you think you've made a lot of money Skeeter but the fact is I don't think it's that much," she said with a snicker. "Well, I'm telling you now I'm getting sick of Amanda," he snapped. "We'll talk about it later," she said leaning closer to him and starting to unbutton his shirt. "What about the deed to the house? Has the lawyer drawn up the papers Jan?" he asked referring to the promise she had made him. "Not yet," she said continuing to unbutton his shirt. "Well, why not?" he said pushing her hand away. "What's the hurry Skeeter?" she said watching him get up from the sofa and start to pace the living room floor. "You promised me you'd do that. You promised," he repeated as he paced. "I will, I just haven't gotten around to it yet," she said watching him pace the floor in front of the sofa. "Why not Jan? Are you holding that over my head to keep me here?" "If that's what it would take to keep you, we wouldn't have much of a marriage. Now would we?" she asked as she reached for the decanter to refill her glass. "We don't have much of a marriage." "Skeeter what's the matter?" she asked surprised by his sudden change of heart. "It's just not going to work out if you can't come through with your promises," he said glancing around at the antiques in the mansion. "I will. I told you I would and I will," she said adamantly. "Then have it done tomorrow." "What's the big hurry? Are you planning to leave me as soon as I deed the house to you or something?" "No, it's just that I'm sick of you trying to control my life with your money." "Oh darling, don't worry," she said getting up from the sofa and walking towards him. "I only want to love you," she said as she wrapped her arms around him. "Skeeter," she said as she hesitated. "What?" "You smell like perfume. Have you been with another woman?" CONTINUED TOMORROW.
