Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday March 3rd 2004
"Have a seat Father," Jan said as Stanley took a seat at the table in her dining room.
"Ilona serve dinner," Jan said as her housekeeper promptly started to serve their plates.
"Well, how is it going Jan?" Stanley asked as he unfolded his napkin and put it on his lap.
"Great.  Just great Father.  I've closed a few more deals this month," she said referring to her real estate business.
"Wonderful.  The market seems to be heating up," he said as he took a sip of his wine and watched Ilona place a plate of food in front of him.
"Yes, it seems everything is heating up," Jan said.
"What does that mean?"
"Skeeter and I are back together Father," she said as she picked up her glass of wine and took a long sip. She glanced towards Ilona and noticed the plump housekeeper smiling.
"Well, you know how I feel about him," Stanley said.
"But it's how I feel about him that matters isn't it?"
"What makes you think that Skeeter is interested in you?  You told me that he moved out and got an apartment."
"I'm sure I can convince him to move back.  He spent the night here last night," she said remembering the long night of passion they had shared.
"So what?" Stanley said shrugging his shoulders.
"He loves me Father. We were up all night long," Jan said with pride.
"That doesn't mean anything Jan," he said knowingly.
"I think it does. A woman can tell."
"Well, where is he tonight then?"
"I told him I was having dinner with you.  He's working late at his store."
"You told me he moved out. Where did he move to?"
"I'm not sure.  It must be a dump.  He doesn't want me to see it."
"I'm sure he won't just give up a new apartment after only a few weeks and move back in," Stanley said as he cut his roast beef and took a bite.
"If I put the house in his name he will," Jan said.
"Oh sure.  Like my daughter will just give up her mansion for a no-good playboy husband," Stanley said reaching for his wineglass.
"I told him I would," Jan snapped.
"You did what?" Stanley asked.
"You heard me."
"Have you lost your mind Jan?"
"No, he wants me to put the house in his name.  I can understand that. I mean I'm the one with all of the money," she said.
"Why? Why should you give him this mansion?" Stanley said waving his arms around the elegant dining room.
"Because I can afford to."
"I thought he just made a lot of money on that sleazy modeling job he did in Times Square?" he said referring to the billboard advertisement with Skeeter in his underwear.
"Yes. But that's all the more reason for me to do this.  Don't you see I want to keep him?  He's becoming more successful now. I want to be a part of his success," she said swallowing hard.
"No I don't see rewarding bad behavior with a house worth a fortune."
"What about you Father?  If you were married wouldn't you do the same?"
"No," he said thinking about the fact that his young lover Starlene had issued him an ultimatum recently.
"Well, I'm
going to do it.  I just wanted you to know since I know the attorney would notify you of the change," she said adamantly.
"Jan if you insist on this..." he said dropping his knife on his plate.
"I do," she said.
"Then you have to put in a clause that will protect you," Stanley said.
"You'll help me then?" Jan said noticing that Ilona was listening intently.
"Of course," he said as he watched the housekeeper refill his glass of wine. "I won't allow him to take everything you have," Stanley said.
