Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday February 12th 2004
Jan walked into the lobby of her father's office in the Empire State Building.
"Jan, hello," the secretary said smiling warmly.
"Is Father in?"
"Yes, I'll buzz him and let him know you're here," the secretary said picking up her phone as she watched Jan ignore her and walk down the hallway towards her father's office.  Jan saw her father's office door closed and listened briefly. When she didn't hear voices she quickly opened the door to see her father sleeping with his feet up on his desk.
"Father," Jan said slamming the door as she watched him jerk his feet down and straighten up in the leather chair.
"Morning," he said.
"You mean afternoon.  Why are you so tired father?" Jan asked as she took off her mink coat and tossed it over a chair.
"I'm not tired. I was just resting my eyes."
"You were snoring."
"I was not," he lied.
"Forget it," Jan said taking a seat in the chair in front of his desk.
"What brings you by unexpectedly?"
"I don't know what to do about Skeeter," she said referring to her husband.
"Divorce him."
"It's not that easy Father.  I love him."
"But he doesn't love you Jan.  The sooner you face up to that the better off you are."
"What makes you so certain that Skeeter doesn't love me?"
"I know."
"You just don't like him Father.  You don't know that he doesn't love me."
"Jan I think Skeeter's cheating on you."
"What makes you say something like that?"
"Starlene and Tiffany saw a woman come to his store late last night."
"Oh really?  Who?"
"I don't know for sure who," he lied not wanting to tell on his former lover and the celebrity Lola Rogers.
"Are you sure he wasn't with Tiffany?" she said referring to Skeeter's ex-wife that lives in the apartment above the lingerie store on Bleecker Street.
"No he was with another woman."
"Starlene's lying to you.  I called Skeeter's salesgirl Amanda last night. She met me at Skeeter's lingerie store and we went in.  Skeeter was not there."
"No, but Skeeter was in the basement with a woman."
"Basement?"
"Yes, there's a room downstairs and Skeeter has a sofa in there that pulls out into a bed.  He took a woman down there last night," Stanley said.
"Oh…" Jan said getting out of the chair and walking towards the window of his office to look down at the view of the city.
"You have to divorce him Jan before he makes a complete fool out of you," Stanley said as he lit a cigar.
"It's too late," she said.
"No one knows about last night but us."
"It's more than last night Father," Jan said turning to look at her father.
"What do you mean?"
"Skeeter came by the house today to get some clothes. That marketing agent called him while he was there.  Skeeter got the job modeling men's underwear," she said.
"Oh great.  Now we'll have to look at him half naked in the middle of Times Square," Stanley said.
"That's what I'm afraid of.  I might not be able to keep him no matter how hard I try," she said as her voice cracked in pain.
"Why would you want him Jan, after all of this?"
"Why would you ask me that?  Every woman wants him. I'm married to him.  Why wouldn't I want to keep him?"
"That's crazy.  He's not worth it," Stanley said.
"Let me be the judge of that. I want to know if you can help me," she said starting to cry.
"How can I help you?" he asked thinking this was the first time he'd seen her cry since she was a child.
"I want to find out who she is and get rid of her," Jan said as her eyes narrowed.
