Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday February 9th 2004 "Amanda, hurry up", Jan said in a hushed voice as Amanda tried to open the door to Skeeter's lingerie store 'Next to Nothing' on Bleecker Street. She thought she might catch her husband Skeeter in the store with another woman. "I'm trying. This key is hard to work sometimes," the salesgirl said jiggling the key in the lock of the door, as they stood in the cold together on the sidewalk in front of the lingerie store. "Does he usually leave the lights on like this?" Jan asked. "No, tonight they're dimmed, he usually leaves them on full so the police can see into the store when he's gone," Amanda said. "Are you sure you have the right key?" Jan asked losing patience with the salesgirl that she paid to work in her husband's store. "Maybe not. Let me see," Amanda said reaching into her black leather motorcycle jacket to check for more keys. "Why don't you put them in your purse?" Jan asked. "Purse? I've never owned one," Amanda said grinning. "Oh," Jan said realizing that a purse wasn't exactly the style of the openly gay salesgirl. "Hurry up, if he's in there doing anything he'll certainly hear us before you get the door open," Jan said. She glanced up to see Skeeter's ex-wife Tiffany step back from her living room window in the apartment directly above the store. "Maybe that's where he is?" Jan said under her breath. "What?" Amanda asked as she inserted another key into the lock. "Maybe he's upstairs with Tiffany. I saw her hiding in her window. I bet he's up there." "There," Amanda said as the door opened and she walked in glancing back to see Jan looking up one last time at Tiffany's window. The two women walked towards the back of the lingerie store. Amanda glanced around at the rack of thongs that Skeeter had just marked down to half price. "I've never seen such trashy lingerie in my life. Skeeter doesn't know how to buy for this store. I've told him I should be buying the merchandise," Jan said picking up a sheer red teddy with leopard skin panties attached. "It's selling like hot cakes," Amanda said thinking about the many attractive women that shopped in the store. "He's not here, that's obvious," Jan said as she thought about Skeeter's ex-wife Tiffany upstairs looking out of the window. "No but he was here only a few minutes ago," Amanda said picking up a paper cup from the coffee table in the back of the store. "I see," Jan said walking towards the back of the store looking at the two cups on the table. "There's ice in this cup," Amanda said putting the paper cup to her nose and smelling it. "There's been some Bourbon in here too." "Look there's lipstick on this cup," Jan said picking up the other cup and seeing that it too had ice in it and smelled like Bourbon. "So he was here not long ago," Amanda said. "I bet he's upstairs with Tiffany. I saw her looking out of the window. I knew this would be nothing but trouble for me when he opened this store," Jan said tossing the paper cup on the table. "Have you ever seen Tiffany hanging around the store?" "Nope." "Are you sure Amanda? This is what I pay you for. I want you to be truthful with me," she asked through narrowed eyes as she put her hands on her hips. "No, I've never seen his ex-wife in the store with him," she repeated. "I pay you to keep an eye on him. You're supposed to know what's going on," Jan said furious that she couldn't control the situation. "It's not my fault your old man's cheating," Amanda said. "How do you know he is?" "Well, I don't. But it looks that way to me. I'm just calling a duck a duck," she said glancing towards the rear of the store and noticing the door to the garden wasn't locked. "I'd give anything to catch him if he is," Jan said glancing towards the front of the store. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE SOAP PHOTOS BELOW.
