Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Friday January 16th 2004
"Ilona make my coffee extra strong today," Jan said as she took a seat at the bar in the kitchen of her Upper East Side mansion.
"You no sleep last night?" Ilona asked as she poured a cup of coffee and handed it to her employer.
"Not really. I'm worried about Skeeter being seen with Lola Rogers. I mean it's bad enough that Lola was just caught in the bed with her doorman.  That picture was all over TV and the tabloids. I wonder if Skeeter went to that luncheon to meet Lola? I think he's jealous that the doorman almost got the job he wanted modeling underwear."
"I think Mr. Skeeter love you," Ilona lied in her broken English.
"He certainly acted like he loved me last night," Jan said remembering the long hours of passion they had shared after their fight. She glanced at Ilona and noticed that her face was red.  "Did you hear us again?" Jan asked.
"I watch TV," Ilona lied.
"Hand me the newspaper would you," Jan said taking a sip of her coffee.
Ilona picked up the newspaper from the counter and handed it to Jan.
Jan tore the clear plastic cover from the newspaper and unfolded it.  She was relieved to see that her husband's picture wasn't on the front page.  "Well, maybe Skeeter was just helping her out as he said. I guess he couldn't have been so passionate with me last night if he'd done anything wrong," she said as she turned the page and frowned.  "There it is", she said pounding the bar with her fist.  "I knew it. I just knew it," she said hitting the bar repeatedly with her fist.
Ilona rushed to the bar to look down at the newspaper. Her eyes widened as she read the headlines "What Lola Wants, Lola Gets," the headline said under the picture of Skeeter and Lola rushing out of a famous hotel in Times Square.
"Oh this no good," Ilona said as she and Jan continued to read.
"As if the recent picture of Lola Rogers in the bed with her doorman wasn't enough, it looks like Lola Rogers wants more. This time the daughter of the legendary singer Mimi Rogers was caught leaving a hotel in Times Square.  Seems Lola's flavor of the day is Mr. Skeeter Diamond.  Mr. Diamond is the husband of Jan Morgan and the owner of the lingerie store "Next to Nothing" on Bleecker Street. All eyes will be on Lola and her lovers to see what's next to Lola's nothing, next time."
"Skeeter!" Jan called out as she tossed the newspaper onto the bar.
"Skeeter!" she screamed again.
"What?" he yelled out as he got out of the bed and started towards the stairs to come down.
"You have some explaining to do," Jan said as she heard his footsteps coming into the kitchen.
"What the hell's the matter?" he asked walking into the kitchen wearing only his briefs.
"This is what's the matter," Jan said picking up the newspaper and hitting him in the stomach with it.
Skeeter opened the paper to the front page and looked up, "I don't see anything," he said disappointed that his picture wasn't on the front page.
"Turn the page Skeeter," Jan said hitting the bar with her fist.
Skeeter turned the page and saw the picture of Lola and him walking out of the hotel yesterday.  He remembered the hour of passion he had shared with the good-looking celebrity.
"I thought you said you only gave her a ride home so the press wouldn't follow her," Jan said.
"We had to go somewhere to get out of sight. The press was everywhere at that luncheon.  I was just helping her out," Skeeter said as his eyes narrowed.
"How much did you help her out Skeeter?"
"What are you implying here Jan?  If I'd been doing anything wrong I sure wouldn't have spent half the night satisfying you, now would I?"
"I don't know Skeeter.  Would you?"
"Don't you trust me?"
"How can I?"
"What kind of marriage do we have if you think this is a problem.  I can't take much more of your jealousy," he said turning quickly and walking back to go upstairs.
"That's it?  That's your answer?"
"Like it or leave it. I ain't changing for you," he said as he rushed up the stairs.
