Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday January 15th 2004 Skeeter opened the door to his wife's Upper East Side mansion and walked in closing the door behind him. "Is that you Skeeter?" Jan called out from the kitchen where she was opening her mail at the bar. "Yeah," he said taking off his coat and tossing it on the back of an antique chair. He walked into the kitchen as Jan turned and smiled at him. "I closed the deal upstate today," she said proudly. "That's great," he said opening the decanter on the bar and pouring a strong drink. "Hey Ilona," he said as the plump housekeeper bent over to put a cake into the oven. "Mr. Skeeter you be home for dinner?" she asked in her broken English. "Yeah Baby, I wouldn't miss your cookin' for anything," he said winking at her as she smiled. "Skeeter aren't you going to kiss me hello?" Jan asked. "Hey Baby," he said walking towards the barstool where she was seated and lightly kissed her on the cheek. "Skeeter you smell like perfume," she said frowning. "Oh, well I guess that's because I went to that luncheon for you today," he said grinning as he thought about the last few hours he'd spend in a hotel room with the celebrity Lola Rogers. "You went to my luncheon?" Jan asked wondering if she'd heard him correctly. "Yeap," he said taking a long sip of his drink. "Why? Why would you go to my luncheon?" "To help you out." "Without even asking me?" "Why not? I've always wondered what went on at those luncheons." "You could have asked me." "Maybe I wanted to see. What's wrong with that?" he asked as his eyes narrowed. "Nothing. I guess. Well who was there?" "I got there late and most of the rich ladies were leaving. I didn't even get lunch." "Oh so you missed the whole thing." "Kinda. I did meet one of the ladies that's been in the paper a lot lately." "Oh?" "Yeah, Lola Rogers," he said as he refilled his glass and braced himself for her reaction. "Oh. So you went to the luncheon to meet Lola Rogers. Didn't you?" "No," he lied. "Did you speak to her?" "Yeah, matter of fact she was so worried about the press following her around that I offered to drive her home," he said. "You didn't?" Jan asked as her voice got a little louder. "Yes I did. Why not? I figured she almost married your father so I should help her out a little." "I wish you hadn't done that. I hope no one else saw the two of you together Skeeter." "Matter of fact they did. A guy from the newspaper took a picture of us." "I can't believe this. After everything that's gone on with Lola Rogers and her being photographed with her doorman. Now the press will probably say you were one of her lovers." "If there was anything to it I wouldn't have told you." "Why do you smell like her perfume if there wasn't anything to it Skeeter?" "I guess it wore off on me in the limo," he said as Ilona turned to look at him in surprise. "Limo?" "I had to help her get home. The press was all around her," Skeeter said winking at Ilona as Jan threw her hands up over her face. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE SOAP PHOTOS BELOW.
