The East Village isn't like any other area of NYC. It's extremely colorful, youthful and relaxed. You won't find high fashion in the East Village, but you will find funk and plenty of it.
Top right picture you see the Empire State Building in the distance. In the very center of the picture is Cooper Union Foundation Building which is the oldest extant steel frame structure in the US. Cooper Union was started as a free institution by Peter Cooper in 1859 to provide free education to working class students.
Center right picture you see the cube at Astor Place. If you look closely you'll see this is where kids like to hangout.
Bottom right picture you see Katz's Delicatessen at 205 East Houston Street at Ludlow. This deli has been around more than 50 years. It's famous for great food, but it's more famous for the orgasm scene in the movie "When Harry Met Sally".
