Greenwich Village got its name when the British Colonists settled here. In 1696 a village sprung up named after the English town of Greenwich. Since those early days the village has been home to famous people such as Edgar Allan Poe, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Today the village is known for the coolest clubs in the world. You'll also see famous restaurants, boutiques and lots of coffee shops. Today's village people consist of actors, writers, artists, NYU students and professors.
Top right picture you see the corner of MacDougal Street and Houston. Once you cross Houston you're in Soho.
Center right picture you see some of the pretty townhouses of Greenwich Village.
