It's fun to roam the streets of the Lower East Side. You'll still see the patchwork of ethnic communities that make up this diverse area. Many of the stores are owned and operated by Jews from Eastern Europe. You'll see religious schools and Yiddish newspapers. However only 10 to 15 percent of the population here is Jewish. Today you'll see a largely Puerto Rican and Dominican population in the area. You'll enjoy taking time to stop and have lunch or dinner in one of the ethnic restaurants. You'll also see fashionable art galleries. The night life is happening too, with NYC clubs like Arlene Grocery. All of the photos on this page were taken on the streets of the Lower East Side and Orchard Street.
