The Lower East Side many years ago was a notorious entertainment center. It was here that the Marx Brothers, Jimmy Durante, George and Ira Gershwin called home. Today after years of suffering through a bad reputation the Lower East Side is becoming fashionable once again.
Top left picture you see The Lower East Side Tenement Museum at 90 Orchard St. and Broome Streets. This 19th century tenement building is in an area that once was known as Little Germany.
Top right picture you see the Empire State Building as seen from the Bowery.
Center right picture you see clothes for sale along the sidewalks in the area known as the Jewish Markets of Orchard Street. Only a year ago the street stayed closed and merchants showed their items outside. Today everyone is inside the stores.
Bottom right picture was also taken on Orchard Street. You'll find clothing, fabric, handbags, etc. for sale here.
