One of the only gated private squares in New York City started a long time ago, back in 1831 by Samuel Ruggles. Samuel patterned Gramercy Park after the London residential squares. Today it's home to artists, movie stars, and people who really value their privacy. Privacy in New York City is very rare folks.
Top left picture you see Pete's Tavern at 129 East 18th Street on Irving Place. Pete's Tavern has been serving since 1864 making it the oldest tavern in NYC.
Top right picture you see the gardens inside of Gramercy Park looking south.
Center right picture you see the former home of James Harper who was mayor of New York and lived here from 1847 until his death in 1869. He probably had a few drinks at Pete's Tavern.
Bottom right picture you see Friend of the Farmer Restaurant at Gramercy Park. This pretty and inviting restaurant is a great place to dine overlooking the park in a peaceful setting.
