Greenwich Village has been known for years as the area of the city for cool people. Here you'll find the young students of New York University, the professors, writers, artists, musicians, actors and movie stars. It's the area of the city for the great nightclubs that have been around for many years.
Top left picture you see the arches of Washington Square Park. If you walk through the center of the arches you are on 5th Avenue.
Top right picture you see a close up of the homes across the street from the arches.
Center right you see the Bitter End, one of the most famous nightclubs on Bleecker Street. There is a sign in the window of the famous musicians that have played in the Bitter End and it reads like a who's who of rock and roll.
Bottom right picture you see a corner of Bleecker Street. Bleecker Street is lined with clubs and restaurants. You could party for weeks on this one street.
