When you hear people refer to the 'village', remember there's the East and West Village (very different areas.) Tompkins Square Park is located in the East Village. Tompkins Square Park was the scene of a big uprising in 1991 when the decision was made to evict the park's squatters and renovate. Today the park is very peaceful and pretty but unfortunately there are still many people that have no where else to call home.

Bottom right picture was taken across the street from the park at Doc Holidays. There are many bars and restaurants in this area. In recent years it has become a new "in" area to live.
