Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Tuesday January 6th 2004
"That's him Starlene!  That's the marketing guy that came by and talked to me about modeling the underwear," Skeeter said as he ran his fingers through his thick dark hair.
"Wow, he's on his way over here to make you a big offer Skeeter," Starlene said grabbing her purse and getting ready to leave his lingerie store. "I'm going to run so you can talk to him," she said putting on her coat as she walked past the rack of thongs towards the front door.
"Okay Baby. Wish me luck," Skeeter said opening the door and kissing her on the cheek quickly as she walked out.  They both glanced across the street to see the well-dressed marketing executive walking towards Skeeter's lingerie store on Bleecker Street.
Skeeter closed the door and walked back in towards a rack of teddys trying to look as if he hadn't noticed the man coming towards the store.  The door opened and the marketing executive walked in.
"Mr. Diamond, how are you today?" he said smiling as he watched Skeeter pretend to look up at him in surprise.
"Great and how are you Mr. O'Donnel?  I believe it was John O'Donnel, right?" Skeeter asked walking towards him as he extended his hand.
"Yes, that's right.  It's John O'Donnel," he said shaking Skeeter's hand.
"Here have a seat," Skeeter said pointing towards the red velvet sofa.
John took a seat on the sofa and glanced around the lingerie store. "How was the holiday season for you?"
"Oh, great.  We sold a lot of lingerie," Skeeter said taking a seat nearby.
"I came by because I had told you I would get back to you after the holidays," John said.
"Yeah, I've given the offer a lot of thought," Skeeter said holding back his smile and hoping his eagerness wouldn't show.
"Oh," John said.
"Yes, I've decided to take you up on the offer," Skeeter said.
"Well, Mr. Diamond you have to understand that I didn't exactly make you an offer. I merely stopped by and told you that my client was
interested in using you to model men's briefs for their company," he said as he picked a piece of lint from his trousers.
"Yeah. Billboards, bus backs, point of purchase ads, I believe that's what you said."
"That's what my client was
exploring," John said.
"Right, right," Skeeter said smiling. "I've decided to take you up on it."
"Well, I stopped by today to let you know that there has been a change of plans," John said pausing as he watched Skeeter's expression change from joy to suspicion.
"What do you mean?"
"I'm afraid there has been a change of plans."
"What are you talking about? I thought they were going to offer me a job modeling?"
"They've approached someone else with the possibility of doing the modeling.  I want to thank you for your consideration however and they might be interested in using you for a shot in their catalog."
"Catalog?  You told me I was going to be their spokesperson."
"You have to understand Mr. Diamond I don't make the decisions.  This was something that the client decided.  I did tell them that I had already approached you.  That's when they said they would be more than happy to include a small photo of you in the next catalog."
"Small photo! What are you talking about?  I thought I was going to be on a billboard in Times Square," Skeeter said.
"I'm afraid this is out of my control Mr. Diamond."
"Well, I should sue you and the company."
"Mr. Diamond I didn't have you sign a contract or even audition for the part did I?"
"Yeah, but I told everyone that I was going to be in the ads."
"I only told you they were considering you.  They were considering you but they found someone else of higher profile that is more suited to their needs.  Would you like for me to get back in touch with you about the catalog?"
