Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday December 17th 2003 "Watch your step there," Skeeter said as he watched Starlene and Vinny walk out of the back of his lingerie store into the small garden area in the back. "This is a nice little garden," Starlene said as the wind picked up. "I've noticed it from Tiffany's window up there," she said looking up at the building where her sister lived above the lingerie store. "I've never seen Tiffany looking out the window up there. Don't tell her about this little hideaway okay?" Skeeter said unlocking the door that leads to the basement. "No. Don't worry Skeeter, you know I'm cool," Starlene said feeling Vinny's strong arm sliding around her waist. Skeeter pulled on the light switch and they walked down the stairs into the small room where there was a sofa with a coffee table covered with Skeeter's beer cans and a chair. "It's nice and warm down here," Starlene said as she and Vinny stood side by side looking around the dimly lit room. "Yeah, the furnace for the building is in the room right over there. It's warm down here and the sofa lets out into a bed too," Skeeter said raising his eyebrows. "This is quite a set up you got here," Vinny said. "Yeah, I just slip the Super a couple extra here and there and he's cool with it. It was an empty room going to waste," Skeeter said taking a seat in the chair. "Make yourself at home," he said motioning for them to relax on the sofa. "Have you ever spent the night down here Skeeter?" Starlene asked as she and Vinny took a seat on the sofa. "Yeah, I stayed down here a few nights ago when Jan was out of town on a big deal upstate." "And Amanda doesn't know about this?" Starlene asked referring to the salesgirl that Jan had hired to help in the store and watch over Skeeter. "No, no. Look I don't ever want her to know anything. I know she's working for Jan really. I never would have hired someone like her," Skeeter said. "I never met this girl," Vinny said touching Starlene's thigh with his fingertips. "She's gay isn't she Skeeter?" Starlene asked. "I think so. There's nothing I can do about it though," Skeeter said resigned to his fate. "You tried?" Vinny asked. "No man. I don't think I should. She works for my wife. She's not exactly my type either, but some of the women that come in the store like her." "That's a waste ain't it?" Vinny said shaking his head. "Yeah, I can't understand it myself. But you know I got enough on my mind," Skeeter said glancing at his watch. "Man look at the time. I hate to do this, but I got to get home. Jan's going to be wondering what I'm up to and since I'm not doing anything I don't want to waste a good excuse," he said laughing. "Okay," Starlene said reaching for her purse. "But you two can stay down here as long as you want," Skeeter said. "No we have to go so you can lock up for the night," Starlene said standing up to leave. "The doors will lock when you leave. You don't even need a key. The sofa pulls out," he said as Vinny stood up and slid his arm around Starlene. "Oh no we couldn't," Starlene said shaking her head. "It's nice and warm down here Starlene," Skeeter said. "Stanley would never know. When you're ready to leave you can go upstairs and see your sister Tiffany," Skeeter said winking at Vinny.
