Jan called out as she opened the door to her townhouse on the Upper East Side. "Miss Jan, he no home," her housekeeper said in her broken English as she rushed to help her boss with her overnight bag. "Hi Ilona. Where is Skeeter?" Jan asked closing the door of the house and taking off her coat. "He call and say tell you he be little late for dinner," Ilona said putting the overnight bag on the floor. "Oh. I guess the opening of the store went okay," Jan said taking a seat on the sofa in the living room. "He say yes, it goes good," Ilona said wondering what Jan would say when she found out just how well the opening of the lingerie store had gone. "How was your trip?" "Oh it went good. I closed on a mansion upstate worth about thirty mil. I guess you could say it was worth missing the opening for that stupid lingerie store of Skeeter's," she said picking up the decanter on the coffee table and pouring herself a glass of wine. "Did I get any calls while I was out," Jan asked watching the chubby housekeeper put her overnight bag near the stairs to go up later. "Yes, a Miss Amanda calls," she said reaching into her apron pocket and taking out a note to hand to Jan. "I'll give her a call," Jan said before looking down at the piece of paper. She read it quickly and reached for the phone. "Why didn't you call me upstate and tell me this?" Jan said eyeing her housekeeper. "I not want to how you say... worry you," Ilona lied not wanting Jan to know she was more concerned about protecting Skeeter. Jan picked up the phone from the coffee table and dialed the number on the piece of paper. She leaned back on the sofa listening to the phone ring as she sipped her wine. "Hello," Amanda answered. "Amanda. This is Jan Morgan returning your call. My housekeeper just handed me a note saying that you called and that you weren't going to work at my husband's store anymore. What is this all about?" "Haven't you talked to your husband Skeeter?" Amanda asked motioning for her live in partner Linda to turn down the TV. "No. I just got home. I've been out of town. Is there something wrong?" "Your husband Skeeter fired me." "What?" Jan said feeling the blood rush to her face. "Yes. He fired me the first day the store opened." "Why? What happened?" "I think it's because I'm gay," she said abruptly. "Oh. I don't know," Jan said surprised by the sudden admission. "Well I do. I know that's why he fired me. He wanted to go into the dressing room with the customers and make me stand behind that dumb cash register all day." "Is that what he said?" Jan asked as her eyes narrowed. "Yes." "I'll talk to him as soon as he gets home. In the meantime plan on going back to work tomorrow. I'm home now and I'll straighten this out tonight," Jan said placing her glass on the coffee table. "I don't know about that. I've called my lawyer," Amanda said as Linda sat down beside her on the sofa patting her back in a show of support. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE SOAP PHOTOS BELOW.
