Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday November 17th 2003
Clark hung up the phone and shook his head as he walked away from Tiffany's desk in the townhouse where he runs his party planning business.
"What's the matter?" Tiffany asked as she and Starlene sat on the sofa. She had called in sick this morning. Her sister Starlene came by her apartment and persuaded her to come to the office and confront Clark's wife Nicole. Nicole had given Tiffany the afternoon off the other day. The two sisters knew Nicole had intentionally called Brandon and invited him to Starlene's party at Arqua Restaurant knowing Tiffany had invited her lover Amir as her date.
"That was Brandon on the phone," Clark said walking towards the sofa where they were seated.
"Is he angry?" Tiffany asked worried.
"Oh, yes. He's furious," Clark said.
"Well, Nicole is to blame," Starlene said getting up from the sofa and starting to pace the floor of the living room.
"I don't want to drag my wife into this," Clark said as he heard the shower turn off upstairs in his bathroom. He had just spent the entire morning with Nicole renewing their passion after months of coldness from her.
"Nicole gave me the afternoon off. Amir's name was on the list as my date when I left to go shopping for a new dress for the party. She's the one that called Brandon and invited him, after I left," Tiffany said watching her sister pace the living room floor.
"That's right," Starlene said stopping to watch Clark.
"That's not what Nicole said," Clark said as he walked towards the front door and opened it.
"Oh yeah, well what did Nicole say?" Starlene asked. She would never forgive Nicole for having an affair with her lover Stanley over a year ago.
"She said that Brandon called the office and said that Tiffany had invited him," Clark said as he searched for the newspaper in the shrubs beside the front door.
"That's not true Clark!" Tiffany said coming to her feet and staring at him in disbelief.
"Well that's what she said. Why would Nicole lie about that?" he asked picking up the newspaper and closing the door.
"Because she's jealous of Tiffany having two wealthy boyfriends," Starlene said as Tiffany motioned for her to stay out of it.
"Oh no," Clark said as he held the newspaper up in front of him.
"What?" Tiffany said rushing to his side.
"Oh no," Tiffany said looking at the bottom of the front page of the tabloid newspaper.
"What is it?" Starlene asked walking towards them and glancing over their shoulders. "Oh no. I can see why Brandon is so mad," she said as her eyes strained to see the print below the headline that read "Theater Owner Cast as Sore Loser in Lover's Triangle."
"This is horrible," Tiffany whispered as she continued to read. "Brandon Douglas shoved a photographer last night as he and his date Tiffany Diamond left Arqua Restaurant in Tribeca. The couple was there to celebrate a "coming out" party for her sister Starlene that was just featured in Playbody Magazine. We learned from inside sources that Ms. Diamond had apparently over extended herself. Her wealthy lover of years, the Manhattan builder Amir Hada was at the restaurant and left hurriedly to avoid a confrontation with Miss Diamond's new lover the theater owner Brandon Douglas. It was reported that Mr. Douglas became enraged when he learned of Mr. Hada's presence at the party and insisted that Mr. Hada leave the trendy Tribeca Restaurant. Shortly after Mr. Hada's departure Mr. Douglas hurriedly escorted Ms. Diamond out of the restaurant when a confrontation occurred with a photographer. It was reported that Mr. Douglas was verbally abusive to both the reporter and to Miss Diamond. Not since the Gabor Sisters have women managed to "celebritize" themselves into the hearts and wallets of New York's wealthiest men."
"How about that?" Starlene said wishing they had put a picture of her in the article.
"I just lost both of my best clients," Clark said folding the newspaper over and tossing it onto the sofa in disgust.
Tiffany watched as her heart sank wondering if she had just lost both of her men and her job.
