Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday October 27th 2003 Jan watched the young NYU student hurriedly leave Skeeter's new lingerie store. Skeeter held the door open as he glanced through the glass at his angry wife Jan. He could only hope Jan hadn't seen the pretty girl undressing in front of him in the unfinished store. "Hi Baby, what a surprise to see you here today," he said in his slow southern accent forcing a smile. "I can see you are surprised Skeeter," she said walking into the store and glancing around quickly. "Who was she Skeeter?" Jan asked looking out of the window as the young girl rushed to get out of sight. "She stopped by and beat on the door begging me to let her in the store," he lied. "So you let her in?" Jan asked staring at him coldly. "Well, yeah," he said glancing around at the boxes where the girl had tossed some of the lingerie she had been trying on. "Your store isn't even open yet Skeeter. Why did you let her in?" "She begged me. She wanted to get an outfit she saw in the window." "Did she?" "No," he lied. "I don't want you alone in this store with women Skeeter Diamond," she said hitting a box that said "Thongs" on the side. "Okay Baby, okay," he said relieved when he realized she hadn't seen the girl trying on the skimpy outfit. "I guess if I hadn't gotten here in the nick of time you would have let her try something on," Jan said taking off her coat and tossing it on top of one of the boxes. "No. I don't even have a dressing room yet Jan," he said remembering the sight of the young woman. "Okay. Well, I have news," she said changing the subject. "What's that Baby?" "I hired someone for you." "Jan I told you that I wanted to interview the final contestants," he said angrily. "It's not a beauty contest Skeeter." "But I have to work in this store with the person you hire." "She's great. She'll be here in a few minutes." "But I wanted to give final approval." "Look Skeeter I'm tired of interviewing people." "I have been sitting here everyday. I could and should have been the one interviewing them." "It's done now. Besides I'm the one paying the salary, I want to do the hiring." "But will she understand that she works for me?" "We'll make it clear." "What if I don't like her?" "You'll like her." "I still think you should let me do the interviewing," he said taking price tags from a box and pulling the strings free. "There she is now," Jan said walking towards the front of the store. Skeeter glanced up and saw the shorthaired woman standing in front of the door smiling at Jan through the glass door. "What if I don't like her Jan?" Skeeter whispered as he followed Jan towards the front of the store. "I told her it was on a trial basis. Just tell me if you don't like her or if she doesn't seem capable of doing the job," Jan said turning the key in the door to unlock it for the new sales clerk. CONTINUED TOMORROW.
