Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday September 18th 2003 Starlene dialed the number to Jan's house as she and Tiffany sat on the bed in the apartment overlooking Washington Square Park. Tiffany pushed her hair out of her face and glanced around at the floor filled with boxes of clothes. She dreaded the move, but most of all she dreaded the new apartment that she had been so excited about only a few days ago. She just found out that her ex-husband Skeeter had signed a lease to open his new lingerie store on the ground floor of the building where Tiffany was moving. The shock of learning that her dream apartment was going to be less than she wanted was doubled when she thought about Skeeter's new wife Jan being so jealous of her. If Jan came by everyday to visit Skeeter at the store she'd certainly run into both of them. She watched as Starlene dialed Jan's phone number to find out how their mutual enemy was going to handle this unpleasant surprise situation. "Hi Jan, it's Starlene," she said glancing towards Tiffany and nodding her head that she had Jan on the phone. "Oh hi Starlene," Jan said in a warm friendly voice. "It's me Starlene," she repeated thinking that Jan must have thought she was someone else. "Yes. I know. I was thinking about calling you soon." "Me?" "Father is coming over for dinner tonight. I do hope you'll come too." "Stanley is coming to your house for dinner?" Starlene repeated for Tiffany's benefit. "Yes. Are you busy?" "No, I'm not busy," Starlene said shrugging her shoulders as Tiffany frowned and listened. "Then please come over. You've never seen my house. My housekeeper Ilona is an excellent cook too," Jan said as she watched Ilona chop vegetables in the kitchen. "Okay. I guess I can come Jan," Starlene said raising her eyebrows and glancing towards Tiffany. "Will Skeeter be there?" "Yes, Skeeter will be here. He's looking forward to seeing you too." "Skeeter's looking forward to seeing me?" "Yes. I'm sure Father will be happy to know that we spoke and that you have agreed to come over. I have to run. See you tonight," Jan said hanging up the phone. Starlene hit end on her cell phone and put it back into her purse. "What the hell was that all about?" Tiffany asked. "I don't know. This is just incredible." "What did she say Starlene?" "That she's looking forward to me coming over there with Stanley for dinner." "That is incredible." "She even sounded nice," Starlene said shaking her head. "Oh wow. Something must be up. She's never been nice. I've known Jan for what? At least four or five years and she's never, ever been nice," Tiffany said as her heart started to race with fear. "Well, I guess I'll soon find out. What do you think? Do you think I should go over there for dinner?" "Yeah, I guess so. I mean what could it hurt?" "Nothing I don't suppose," Starlene said still unconvinced. "She's just such a nasty person. I can't imagine her truly wanting to be nice to you or anyone else." "Maybe I should call Skeeter and see what's going on?" "Do you think he would know?" "She said he was excited about me coming over too." "Then he must know." "Yeah, but Skeeter's not working. He quit his job. I can't call him because he'll be at Jan's house." "Maybe Stanley knows what's going on," Tiffany said referring to Jan's father and Starlene's lover. "Then I'll know in a few minutes. I'm going to the house now. I'll call you when I get there and let you know what he says," she said picking up her purse and walking towards the hallway. "Hurry. The suspense is killing me," Tiffany said smiling at her sister.
