Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday August 18th 2003 Tiffany rang the buzzer in the lobby and the front door opened. She walked up the stairs to see a heavyset middle aged man leaning over the railing watching her as she climbed the stairs. "I'm here to see the apartment that was advertised in the Village Herald," she said looking up at his belly as she walked towards him. "This way young lady," the man said admiring her shapely legs as she climbed the last flight of stairs and walked towards him. He put the key in the apartment door and pushed the heavy metal door open. Tiffany walked in noticing the smell of polyurethane and the glare of the shiny wood floors. "This apartment was just renovated," he said watching her as she walked towards the living room window to look down at the street below. "This is really nice," Tiffany said glancing up at the high ceilings and fresh paint on the walls. "Yeah, it's a great place. Two bedrooms too," he said following her as she walked down the hallway glancing into the bedrooms. "I love it," Tiffany said visualizing her furniture near the freshly painted walls. "It won't be on the market long either. I've had about forty calls on it," the man said as the keys on his belt jiggled when he walked. "Oh. The rent's good on this too," Tiffany said remembering the ad in the paper. "My advice is that you grab it if you want it," he said enjoying the way the sunlight made her white linen blouse transparent. "I really don't know what to do. I mean this is the first one I've looked at," she said as her eyes darted around the room. "It won't be around long." "Yeah, but I haven't really made up my mind whether I should move or not." "Did you give notice on the apartment you're living in?" "Oh, well that's part of the reason I might move. I mean it belongs to the guy I've been seeing for years and I think it's better that I have my own place." "It ain't none of my business of course. But it's always better to have your own place. So you'd be living here alone?" he asked as he imagined her in a sheer nightgown calling him to come up and fix a broken appliance. "Yeah. I might have my sister live with me at some point though." "Your sister?" "She just moved in with her boyfriend. But it's possible that it won't work out and she'll want to move back in with me," Tiffany said as she walked towards the second bedroom. "Does she look anything like you?" he asked smiling. "Yes, she does," Tiffany said feeling the pang of sadness over Starlene moving out. "Then it's okay," he said. "Are you the owner of the apartment?" "No. But I take care of everything that goes on here," he said sucking in his stomach and pushing his shoulders back when he saw her glance his way. "Is it a nice building?" "Yeah, it's really nice. Most of the apartments have been renovated." "Well, I have to go back to work. I'll think about it," she said taking another quick look around the living room as she imagined where she'd place her sofa and chairs. "I've got a couple coming back in a few minutes. This is their second visit. I think they're going to put money down on it," he said glancing at Tiffany's long legs. "But I have to go back to work and it's the first one I've seen," she said as they walked out into the hallway and he locked the apartment door. He followed her as she walked down the stairs towards the front door. He pushed open the front door and walked out behind her into the bright sunlight. "I can't hold it. If you want it you better put some money down on it now," he said admiring the lace under her linen blouse. "I don't know what to do." "I wish I could hold it but I can't. I think it will be gone in a matter of fifteen minutes. I even think that store front there will rent out by the end of the day," he added pointing to the large space on the ground floor with the sign posted "Commercial Space for Rent". "Well…" Tiffany said opening her purse. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE SOAP PHOTOS BELOW.
