It was almost eleven and Clark still wasn't in the office this morning. She glanced up when the front door of the townhouse opened. "Morning Tiffany," Clark said walking into the living room and closing the door. "I was starting to worry about you Clark," she said as he walked towards her desk and took a seat in a nearby chair. "I should have called but I got tied up," he said not looking at her but picking up the morning mail from her desk. "You usually call when you're going to be late." "Yes, I should have called but I didn't." "Is everything okay?" "Yes. Everything is fine," he said as he opened an envelope. "How did the dinner go with Alexis last night?" she asked referring to his dinner with the woman he was thinking of bringing into his business as a partner. "It was really nice Tiffany." "Well, how was the food?" Tiffany asked dying to know more about the older woman that Clark was interested in hiring. "She cooked the entire meal herself and it was really great. Her apartment is decorated beautifully." "Impressive," Tiffany said watching him closely. "Yes," he said opening another envelope. "Well, are you going to hire her?" "I really think so. I told her I wanted to think it over a little while. It's really a big decision." "Of course. I mean it's really not exactly the same as putting someone on payroll. I mean you're talking about bringing her into the business as a partner." "Yeah. I guess that was the right thing to do," he said putting the mail down on Tiffany's desk and staring out of the window. "Is there something wrong Clark?" Tiffany asked. "No. I mean I hope not," he said picking a piece of lint from his trousers. "There is something wrong. What is it?" "Oh nothing. It's just that maybe things might have moved along a little too fast with Alexis and me," he said avoiding her eyes. "Take your time. You told her you were thinking it over, right?" "Yes. Well, I better get to work," he said walking towards the stairs to go up to his office. Tiffany heard the door to his office upstairs close as she wondered what was on his mind. The phone rang on her desk. "Manhattan Party Planning," she answered. "Hi Tiffany. It's Alexis." "Oh hello Alexis," Tiffany said. "Did Clark get to the office yet?" "He just came in," Tiffany said noticing the light on the other phone line was lit indicating he was on the phone in his office. "Wow he really got over there fast." "He just picked up the phone Alexis," Tiffany said ignoring her prior statement. "Just tell him he left something in my apartment this morning. I'll bring it to him later this afternoon on my way downtown," she said. "Oh. Okay," Tiffany said as the impact of the statements started to sink in. "I'm looking forward to working with you Tiffany. I'm sure Clark and I will really keep you busy. See ya soon," she said hanging up the phone. Tiffany hung up the phone and it rang again immediately. "Manhattan Party Planning," she answered. "Hi Tiffany," Starlene said. "Hi Starlene." "I've got some shocking news for you," Starlene said. "It's that kind of day I guess. What is it?" Tiffany asked still numbed by Alexis and Clark. "I'm moving into Stanley's mansion today! Isn't that wonderful Tiffany? I'll have housekeepers and a limo!" Starlene said as she tossed her thongs into the suitcase. CONTINUED MONDAY.
