Starlene asked her lover's receptionist as she walked into his office in the Empire State Building. "No, he's a little late getting in today." "I'd say, he's at least an hour late getting to work," Starlene said glancing at her wristwatch as she took a seat in the lobby. "How have you been Starlene?" "Okay, I guess." "When's the big date for the wedding?" "That's the problem, there isn't a date. I've been after Stanley for a year at least and he won't set the date. I don't know what to do about it either." "It's not any of my business Starlene, but... " The receptionist stopped herself and shook her head as if she couldn't finish her thought. "What? You've known Stanley longer than I have. What do you think I should do?" "Is this between me and you only?" "Sure." "I mean I wouldn't want to get fired." "No, of course not. You would be doing me a huge favor if you gave me some advice." "Starlene he's older and he's been single for years and years." "Yeah." "Before you came on the scene he had a girlfriend named Laney." "Yes, she was really pretty." "A lot like you actually. A young blonde that wanted to get married, but Stanley never married her. She finally convinced Stanley to help her get a job posing for Playbody Magazine and that launched a career for her." "Yeah, I've been bugging Stanley to help me do the same thing and he won't," Starlene said feeling her anger return. "He might not ever help you get a job modeling either." "Why not? I bet he doesn't think I'm pretty enough," Starlene said taking a breath and sucking in her stomach. "It's not that. I don't think he wants to lose you but he won't commit either." "Well, what should I do then?" "Use the connections you've made while you're with Stanley to meet someone else maybe. Oh, I feel really guilty saying this to you, but that's what I think I would do if I were you." "You mean to find another boyfriend?" "Yeah, but please don't tell him I told you." "Of course not. But I haven't really met any men that are single in a long time. Most of the men that I've met at the parties are senators and stuff and they're all married." "I know. But you have to keep trying," the receptionist said as the mailman walked into the lobby and handed her a stack of mail. "I have been thinking about moving on to another guy," Starlene said hesitating until the mailman walked out in the hallway. "But I haven't met anyone suitable," Starlene said thinking about Vinny and his Mafia connections. "It's not easy to find guys that have a little money and are still single." "I know, I know," the receptionist said. "It's really hard too, when I'm always with Stanley. I've spent all this time with him and I haven't gotten any closer to a commitment," Starlene said regretfully. "Here's an idea for you," the receptionist said as she pulled an invitation out of an envelope. "What?" "The Mayor!" "He's seeing someone though isn't he?" "He's not married and he's a billionaire." "That's true. He's cute too," Starlene said thinking about the pictures she'd seen of him in the newspapers. "Here's an invitation. Stanley has to go to a party at Gracie Mansion," the receptionist said holding up an embossed invitation. "All you need to do is go with Stanley and meet the Mayor. Who knows?" the receptionist said smiling as she watched Starlene's face light up. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE SOAP PHOTOS BELOW.
