Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Friday July 11th 2003 Starlene glanced in the mirror on the living room wall of her apartment overlooking Washington Square Park. She wiped the smeared lip-gloss from the corners of her mouth. She ran her shaking fingers through her long blonde hair as she heard the faint knock on the front door. She instinctively pulled her low cut sweater down in the front to better accentuate her voluptuous cleavage as she walked towards the door. She took a deep breath and opened the door smiling sweetly at her wealthy older lover. "Hi Stanley," she said motioning for him to come into the apartment. "Hi Honey," he said kissing her on the cheek and lingering momentarily as he detected the smell of the unfamiliar masculine scent on her. She closed the door and turned to follow him into the living room. She watched him take a seat on the sofa. "Want a glass of wine?" she asked stopping near the entrance to the kitchen. "That would be nice honey," he said taking off his suit jacket and folding it neatly and placing it over the back of the sofa cushion. He listened to her opening the refrigerator door and searching through the contents. "I'm glad you could get out of the gala in Washington," she said referring to the fact he had called and left a message on the machine that he canceled his trip to try and patch up their relationship. She had recently told him she planned to see other men since he'd stalled on their wedding plans for years. She immediately kept her word. Vinny had just left narrowly missing Stanley's arrival. She hadn't thought her plot would have paid off so quickly. "Where were you when I called a few minutes ago honey?" he asked glancing around at the half-burned candles on the coffee table. "Oh. I was here. I was in the bathroom, I guess," she lied. Her heart raced as she remembered how she and Vinny had almost consummated their relationship on the sofa when the phone rang. Stanley talked into the answering machine saying he was on his way over. "Oh," he said noticing the sofa cushion was pulled out. "Stanley I don't have a bottle of wine. Would you like a vodka and orange juice?" "Oh sure that will be fine honey." He pushed the sofa cushion and a driver's license fell to the floor. He bent over and picked it up. He felt the familiar tightness in his chest return as he stared in shock and awe at the picture. There was no mistaking Vinny's muscular face in the picture. He held the license under the light of the candle on the table and read the words "State of Florida Driver License". "How did you manage to get out of the gala Stanley," Starlene asked plunking the ice cubes in the glass and opening the drawer for a spoon. "Oh... I just called the senators and told them I couldn't make it," Stanley said putting the driver's license in the pocket of his dress shirt and glancing around the living room nervously. "I'm so glad you did. I missed you Stanley," she said walking into the living room carrying two drinks. She handed him his drink and stood before him taking a sip of hers. "You missed me?" he asked never tasting his drink but placing it on the coffee table and watching her. "Yes. I never wanted us to break up Stanley," she said walking around the coffee table and taking a seat beside him on the sofa. "No?" he asked watching her in the dim light. "No. I just want you to commit to a date for our wedding," she said putting her hand on his knee and rubbing the expensive Italian fabric of his suit. "Marriage," he said absent-mindedly as he thought about Nicole's father and the threats he's made in the past. "Yes. Stanley, I thought we were going to finally get everything straightened out between us," she said her voice filled with frustration. "Starlene, you haven't been seeing anyone else have you?" "Don't change the subject Stanley," she said looking down to avoid his eyes. "This was about you and your unwillingness to commit to a wedding date," she said reaching for her drink on the coffee table. "It's about a lot more now though, isn't it?" he said swallowing hard as he watched her. CONTINUED MONDAY. MORE SOAP PHOTOS BELOW.
