Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday July 10th 2003
"Bye Vinny," Starlene said as she stood in the doorway of her apartment overlooking Washington Square Park.
"You call me anytime Starlene," he said kissing her lightly on the cheek.
"Thanks for being so understanding Vinny," she said watching him straighten the gold chain on his neck.
"I'm only leaving because you asked me to."
"I know.  I appreciate it too," she said smiling sweetly hoping he would hurry since Stanley was on his way over to her apartment and had to be very close by now.
"I don't like what this old man's doing by any means," he said referring to the fact Nicole had said she was seeing Stanley again.  Nicole's father, the mob boss in Florida, had sent Vinny to New York.  He was to assist Nicole in getting her divorce from Clark. Nicole's father had been furious in the past when he found out a man Stanley's age had been with his young daughter.  Starlene had been equally as angry when she stopped by Stanley's office and caught Nicole and him in the act on his sofa.
"I'll get to the bottom of this Vinny."
"If he don't treat you right, you let me know.  I'd love to take care of him," Vinny said his jaw tightening at the thought.
"Vinny it's okay. I promise. Please let me handle it. Okay?"
"Look Starlene, I told you I wouldn't lay a hand on him. I won't.  Just cause of you though. Only cause you asked me to," he said straightening the gold chains on his neck
"Vinny.  I hate to say this but you really have to go.  I mean he might be here just any minute now," she said glancing down at her watch nervously.
"I ain't scared of him Starlene."
"I know."
"I have a right to be here more than he does."
"How's that Vinny?'
"Cause I love you enough to marry you and treat you right. He's just stringin' you on."
"I appreciate that Vinny," she said.  "Thanks for coming," she said her voice filled with finality as she shifted her weight from one foot to the other nervously.
"Call me if you need me for anything," he said hitting the button to call the elevator.
"Oh sure, thanks," she said taking a deep breath and saying a silent prayer Stanley wouldn't be on the elevator coming up.
"If he gives you any trouble or anything like that…" Vinny said as his eyes narrowed.
"Oh sure.  I'll call you," she said as the elevator door opened.  Her shoulders relaxed when she saw the car was empty and Vinny stepped inside.
"Don't wait to long Starlene," he said holding the elevator door open with his huge hand as the gold chain on his neck glistened in the dim light.
"I won't Vinny."
"I won't wait forever Starlene," he said as the elevator door partially opened and closed repeatedly against the grip of his big hand.
"I know."'
"Ciao," he said giving her voluptuous body one more glance as he took his hand from the door and it finally closed. The elevator started to descend.
Starlene closed the door quickly.  She ran to the window hoping Stanley's limo wasn't parked in front of her building.
