Jan asked noticing that her housekeeper was closely following the conversation in the living room of her Upper East Side Mansion. "Yes, Miss Jan," the plump housekeeper said getting up to leave the room. When she passed Skeeter she saw him wink at her. She grinned slightly as she walked towards the kitchen where she planned to eavesdrop near the doorway. "And turn off that horrible TV show," Stanley instructed referring to the gossip show Ilona had been watching before Skeeter came in. The show had just reported that Jan had married Skeeter 'the lingerie salesman from Georgia' in a hushed Las Vegas wedding. It also reported that Skeeter's ex-wife Tiffany had numerous lovers including Amir Hada and the wealthy theatre owner Brandon Douglas. To add injury to insult the reporter laughingly said that the socialite Jan had been left to 'pick up the crumbs of the southern belle,' referring to Tiffany. "Skeeter take a seat," Jan said never looking up at him as she sat on the sofa. "Baby don't look so down," he said taking a seat on the sofa and reaching to touch her leg. "Get your hands off of me Skeeter Diamond," she said pushing him away. "I can explain everything Baby," he said giving her Father a resentful look. "I think it's too late for explaining Skeeter. We don't want your kind in our family," Stanley said as he reached in his jacket for a cigarette. "That's strong talk from you," Skeeter said. "It's over Skeeter. You won't be humiliating my daughter and ruining the Morgan name anymore," Stanley said lighting his first cigarette in a week. "Why don't you butt out of my affair with my wife," Skeeter said hotly. "Jan won't be your wife long Skeeter. I'm going to have this union nullified." "You can't do that. We're married." "Enough! I want to hear Skeeter's explanation for the events," Jan said turning to look at Skeeter with narrowing eyes. "I was trying to explain when you left me there in the lobby of the Plaza Hotel, Baby," he said. "Go for it Skeeter, tell the truth. You were at the Plaza Hotel with Nicole now weren't you?" Stanley asked taking a sip of his wine. "You're one to talk. Are you jealous because you weren't there with her?" he asked referring to the affair that Stanley had with the young woman before she married Clark. "How dare you," Stanley said. "How dare you, old man. You're with little Starlene. A girlfriend young enough to be your granddaughter and that ain't enough you had to have Nicole too," Skeeter said his voice getting louder with each word. "Stop this. Just stop it! I want to hear why you were at the Plaza with Nicole?" Jan asked with determination. "Because she called me and asked me to come by and talk to her." "I knew you were with her. I knew it!" Stanley said hotly. "Let me finish before you go judging me so high and mighty," he said in his slow southern accent. "I told you so," Stanley said glancing towards Jan and taking a long drag on his cigarette. "Maybe you need to hear why I was at the Plaza Hotel talking to Nicole," Skeeter said pausing to stare at Stanley before he went on. "Well why Skeeter? As if it could possibly matter now," Jan said. "Just in case you didn't realize it, Nicole's Father is a mob boss in Florida," Skeeter said noticing that Stanley was lighting another cigarette while one burned in the ashtray. "What does that rumor have to do with us?" Jan snapped. "It's not a rumor. It's true. Nicole called me because she was upset. Her Father is upset that his daughter's marriage to Clark didn't work out and that she wants a divorce. He hoped to see her settle down with kids. When her Daddy pressured her she confessed that she'd been confused when she married Clark. She only married him to get out of the grips of another man," Skeeter said noticing that they were both listening intently. "What has that got to do with you meeting Nicole at the Plaza Hotel Skeeter?" Jan snapped losing patience with the situation. "Nicole didn't know what to do. Her old man is angry and wants to take care of the man that ruined his daughter's marriage," Skeeter said pleased as he noticed the perspiration on Stanley's forehead. CONTINUED MONDAY.
