Jan asked glancing around the lobby of the Plaza Hotel. Her Father had phoned her and told her that Skeeter had been seen at the Plaza Hotel and he knew for a fact that Nicole had just left her husband and checked into the famous hotel. "What ya talking about Baby?" Skeeter asked in his slow southern accent as he put his arm around her waist in an attempt to calm her down. "You know exactly what I'm talking about. Father called me and told me that you were seen here and that Nicole had checked into this hotel," she said struggling to keep her voice down as her long nails dug into the skin on Skeeter's arm. "Your old man?" "Yes Skeeter, he called me and told me." "He's the one that you better be looking for," he said referring to the fact that her Father had an affair with the pretty young woman before she married Clark. "That's enough of that. You aren't going to get out of this so easy, we're married now," she said her face red with anger. "Jan!" a woman called out from across the lobby. Jan quickly let go of Skeeter's arm when she spotted the woman in the distance. "Skeeter I want you to leave this hotel right now and go to my house," she said under her breath. "Why?" he asked turning to see the beautiful middle aged woman walking towards them. "You go now or else," Jan said walking away from Skeeter towards the woman. Skeeter stood motionless and watched as Jan greeted the attractive woman. The two women first extended one cheek then another to each other in a phony kiss. They immediately stepped back and glanced at each other and made 'you-look-great-darling' comments. Skeeter walked towards the table in the lobby and stood among a crowd of people checking in so that he could listen and not be seen. "Jan darling! How are you?" the woman asked. "Great and you?" "What have you been doing lately. I haven't seen you since we worked on the Park Avenue Charity event a few years ago," the woman said. "Oh, I've been busy. I worked the last couple of years with Amir Hada on the opening of his new spa," Jan said glancing around the lobby to see if Skeeter had left. When she didn't see him she went on "you know between my Father and me it's very busy managing a business that's been written up in the financial magazines numerous times." "Oh darling you are so clever. I wish I had a head for finances like you do. I can't manage such matters. You poor dear, does this leave you anytime for travel and pleasure?" the woman asked pursing her well-lined red lips as she watched Jan. "Some. I hope to get away more often this year," Jan said. "I heard rumors Jan. I just don't believe them. I heard you had run off to Las Vegas and married some... oh dear, lingerie salesman," she said laughing. "Oh that," said Jan flatly. "Of course I'm certain it's all a fabrication to try and unseat you on a committee or something totally ridiculous. Besides, I told everyone that Jan Morgan would certainly have an appropriate wedding." "Of course I would," Jan said. "So what are you doing at the Plaza this evening darling? I saw you speaking with that perfectly divine looking man," she said looking around the lobby for Skeeter and not seeing him hidden in the crowd nearby. "I just stopped by to talk to the events planner for an upcoming party," she lied. "I'm on my way to a meeting and I'm running late as usual. I'll have my secretary call. We'll do lunch," Jan said waving her hand towards the woman before walking towards the front door to leave. "Oh yes, lunch!" the wealthy woman said watching as the doorman pushed open the heavy front door for Jan to leave. The woman's eyes widened when she saw Skeeter making his way through the crowd in the lobby. She watched his prideful swagger as he walked towards her smiling broadly. CONTINUED TOMORROW.
