Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday February 13th 2003 Skeeter watched as the waiter placed the plates of prime rib on the table. "Will there be anything else Sir?" the waiter asked Stanley. "Would you like anything else Skeeter?" Stanley asked. "Another beer," Skeeter said picking up his glass and holding it towards the waiter. "Certainly," the waiter said taking the glass and rushing away from the table with his head down. "So this is a nice place," Skeeter said picking up his knife and cutting a piece of the meat. "Yes. I have lunch here often," Stanley said. He glanced around the restaurant realizing he should have gone somewhere that he wouldn't run the chance of seeing a business acquaintance. "Nice of you to invite me," Skeeter said blowing on a large bite and putting it in his mouth. "I think we have some things we need to discuss." "Yeah. I guess we should get some things aired out. Better now than later," Skeeter said buttering a large piece of bread. "Skeeter exactly what are your intentions towards my daughter?" Stanley asked. "Well, you saw the engagement picture in the newspaper." "Oh yes the announcement. That was one way to learn of the relationship." "I guess I was supposed to ask you for her hand? Is that it?" Skeeter said as he buttered another piece bread. "That's the usual custom, but I can tell we aren't going to follow customs," Stanley said as the waiter sat another glass of beer in front of Skeeter. "Sorry 'bout that. I should have asked you. But Jan didn't exactly follow customs either," Skeeter said taking a long sip of the beer to wash down his bread. "No. I guess she didn't. You said she bought that ring?" Stanley asked remembering the huge diamond on his daughter's finger. "No, I didn't buy that ring." "No, I don't suppose you would have," Stanley said in a condescending tone. "I could have if that's what you're implying," Skeeter said dropping his fork on the plate. "No, just repeating what you told me." "She's the one that sprang the whole thing on me. I could have gotten her a ring, but she's the one that did the asking," Skeeter said through narrowed eyes. "Yes. I believe you," Stanley said picking up his fork and taking a bite of his food. "Good. Because I would have gotten her a ring. I'm not cheap or anything like that. She's the one that bought the ring and did the asking." "I don't understand why it had to come to this point before anyone was made aware of the fact that the two of you were in a relationship." "That's Jan's doings too. She said you wouldn't approve," Skeeter said pushing his prime rib onto his fork with a piece of bread. "Wise," Stanley mumbled. "What?" "Why not at least talk this over before putting an announcement in the newspaper." "You have to ask your daughter that." "Well, let me ask you a few questions that maybe you can answer for me," Stanley said taking a sip of his wine. "Sure go for it." "Are you marrying Jan for her money?" CONTINUED TOMORROW.
