Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday February 12th 2003 Skeeter glanced down at his watch as he pushed open the brass door to the expensive restaurant in midtown Manhattan. "One?" the waiter asked glancing disapprovingly at Skeeter's black leather jacket. "No. I'm meeting somebody," Skeeter said taking off his jacket. "Yes sir," the waiter said taking Skeeter's jacket and handing it to the attractive young coat check girl at the door. "I'm meeting Stanley Morgan," Skeeter said feeling his heart race when he said the wealthy older man's name. "Oh yes. Mr. Morgan called." "I guess he's not going to show?" Skeeter asked holding out his hand to get his coat back. "No sir. Mr. Morgan's limousine is caught in traffic. He said to be sure you are attended to properly sir," the waiter said motioning for Skeeter to follow him through the busy restaurant. "There sir," he said pulling out a chair for Skeeter at a table near the fountain. "Would you like something to drink while you wait?" the waiter said pushing the chair forward as Skeeter took a seat. "Yeah, bring me a Bud," Skeeter said glancing around at the well-dressed business lunch crowd. "Yes sir," the waiter said starting to walk away. "Hay. Did Stanley say how late he'd be?" Skeeter asked in his slow southern accent noticing that the patrons at the table next to him had stopped talking and were watching him. "He said he'd arrive about fifteen minutes late sir," the waiter said before walking towards the large oak bar to the right of the room. Skeeter glanced down at his watch. He told Tiffany on the phone earlier today that he'd call her later this afternoon. He hoped so much she would meet him at the Washington Square Hotel tonight. This was the closest she had ever been to agreeing to talk to him one last time. Jan and his engagement announcement in the newspaper must have made her realize their marriage would soon be over if something didn't change. He wondered if his lunch with Jan's father Stanley would end the engagement or seal the wedding plans. Either way, one night with Tiffany was worth the risk. "Sir, I see Mr. Morgan has arrived earlier than expected," the waiter said placing a glass of beer on the table as he looked towards the front of the restaurant. "Yes. I see he has," Skeeter said taking a long sip on the beer as he watched the coat check girl obviously flirting with the well-dressed older man. Skeeter looked down when he saw Stanley turn and start toward his table. "Mr. Morgan, it's so nice to see you today sir," the waiter said pulling out the chair across the table from Skeeter. Stanley nodded at the waiter as he took a seat then glanced towards Skeeter. "Hi, how you doing?" Skeeter said putting his glass of beer down on the table. "Just fine, thank you," Stanley said glancing at the sport shirt Skeeter was wearing. "Your usual sir?" the waiter asked. "Yes please and be sure it's a good year," Stanley said as the waiter rushed towards the bar to bring him a bottle of wine. "How's it going?" Skeeter asked picking up his beer glass and taking another sip. "We'll soon see," Stanley said. "You want to talk first or order lunch?" Skeeter asked. "We'll have lunch," Stanley said. "Okay," Skeeter said picking up his napkin from the table and putting the folded linen on his knee. "Well, I'd like to start out by asking a few questions," Stanley said as the waiter approached the table with the bottle of vintage wine. "Shoot," Skeeter said holding up his glass to motion for the waiter that he wanted a refill. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE SOAP PHOTOS BELOW.
