Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday February 6th 2003 "Skeeter why don't we go out for brunch today and celebrate," Jan called out as she turned up the hot water in the shower of Skeeter's Bleecker Street apartment. "I have to work Jan," Skeeter said as he sat in the living room on the futon sofa. He took a sip of his coffee as he reached for the newspaper on his coffee table in the living room. "I'll call Bob and tell him you aren't coming in today," she said referring to his boss and her friend that owned the lingerie company where Skeeter was employed. "No. I have to go in," Skeeter said looking at their engagement picture then looking at the words under their photograph. "Good. We'll celebrate," Jan said clearly not hearing his response over the running water in the shower. "There's nothing to celebrate," Skeeter mumbled under his voice as he read the announcement saying they were planning a spring wedding. "Spring. Damn that doesn't give me much time," he said folding the newspaper and tossing it on the coffee table. "I'm so happy Skeeter," Jan said as the warm water splashed over her body. "Great. I'm so miserable. How the hell will I ever be able to live with this?" he said to himself. He got up from the futon and walked towards the window to look down at Bleecker Street below. He thought about the nightclub downstairs and the many young women he'd met there. He thought about his estranged wife Tiffany. She had seemed understanding on the phone last night. Tiffany knew Jan and she knew how pushy Jan could be. Maybe he could convince Tiffany to spend an evening with him again soon. At least once more before he married Jan. "Did you say something honey?" Jan called out. "No. Nothing," Skeeter said. "I'm hurrying. I'll be ready soon," she said turning off the water and stepping out of the shower. The cell phone rang on the table in the living room. Skeeter rushed to answer the phone wondering if it was Tiffany calling him. "Hello," Skeeter answered. "Skeeter you aren't wasting anytime are you?" Nicole said. "Hay Baby. How you doing?" Skeeter whispered. "Better than you are I see," Nicole said glancing at the picture that her husband Clark had laminated to give Jan. "You saw the damn picture in the newspaper?" "Yeah. You don't sound too happy Skeeter." "No. I can't talk too much. She's here now." "Whose that?" Jan called out from the bathroom as she applied lotion to her freshly shaved legs. "Just the office Jan," Skeeter answered. "You didn't tell me you were going to marry her in the spring," Nicole said glancing out of the window as she watched her husband Clark standing on the sidewalk talking to the Fed Ex deliveryman. "I didn't know it either. She just sprung this all on me." "Well, Skeeter it looks like the two of us are going to be in the same boat." "Yeah, I guess you could say that Baby," he said remembering a few weeks ago when she had slipped by his apartment for a few hours. "Did you know her Father is really upset about this?" Nicole asked. "No. Have you talked to him?" "No. But Clark did this morning and he said Stanley is really furious. Sounds like you are in for the fight of your life Skeeter." "What did Stanley say?" "Clark wouldn't say. He just said that Stanley wasn't interested in giving the two of you an engagement party," she said laughing. "Tell Bob to hold on, I want to speak to him," Jan called out as she tied her robe and walked towards the living room. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE SOAP PHOTOS BELOW.
