Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Monday February 3rd 2003 Jan listened closely to hear the message being left on Skeeter's answering machine on a table across the bedroom of his Bleecker Street apartment. She turned to watch Skeeter's face as he propped himself up on the pillow beside her in the bed to see who was calling at this late hour. "Skeeter it's me," his estranged wife Tiffany said into the machine. "I hope you got home okay. I hope you didn't run into Stanley in the lobby of my building after I left you there. I'm sorry things are so crazy between us Skeeter. I do want to talk to you soon. I know you don't love Jan and you don't want to marry her. I can understand how you felt she trapped you into becoming engaged. Just give me a call. We'll go somewhere to talk. Maybe the Washington Square Hotel would be a good idea, just like you said. Call me at home tomorrow, " Tiffany said before hanging up the phone. "Okay Skeeter Diamond," Jan said throwing the sheet from the bed and getting up to walk around the bed and face him. "I don't know what the hell Tiffany is talking about," Skeeter said in his slow southern accent. "You do too know. You obviously told her that you didn't want to marry me," Jan said as she watched him shake his head in disbelief. "No Baby, I don't know what Tiffany's got up her sleeve now," he said picking up his can of beer from the nightstand and taking a long sip. "Yes you do too. Why did you have to tell her that I bought my engagement ring?" "Because you did. If she thought I bought that rock on your finger she'd take me to the cleaners in divorce court." "My lawyers could handle it." "I was just looking out for us Baby," he said in his sexiest voice. "I don't think you were looking out for us when you told her that you didn't love me." "I never said that. She probably just wants to believe that." "Why, because she's in love with you Skeeter?" Jan said sarcastically. "Well, maybe she is still in love with me." "She said you asked her to go to the Washington Square Hotel," Jan said with piercing eyes as she watched his response. "I don't think I said anything like that. She probably just wants to talk to me," he lied. "So you're saying that she invited you to go to the hotel to talk?"' "Yeah," he lied again. "Are you sure that's the truth Skeeter?" "Yeah, Baby. Come on we were just having a nice conversation when she called. Don't let the past get in the way of our future," he said referring to her previous statement that after they were married money would never be a problem for him. "Skeeter we have to get things straight between us. I thought you wanted to get married. That's why I bought the ring," she lied. "Well, I never really asked you to marry me or anything." "I knew you didn't have the money to buy me an engagement ring." "I could have bought you a ring, you didn't give me time," he said his voice filled with resentment. "I mean a ring like this one," she said holding out her hand and admiring the large diamond. "Maybe not the Hope Diamond." "See I saved you money. I saved you from having to pay off a huge debt for the proper ring." "So you did. What do you want? Thanks for humiliating me." "I didn't humiliate you. You humiliated yourself by telling Tiffany that I bought the ring." "What do you want me to do now? What's done is done." "I want you to call her and straighten this out right now," Jan said glancing towards the phone. CONTINUED TOMORROW. MORE SOAP PHOTOS BELOW.
