Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Thursday January 30th 2003
"Is that you?"  Starlene called out when she heard the front door of the apartment close.
"Ya, it's me," Tiffany said locking the door and walking towards the dimly lit living room of their apartment overlooking Washington Square Park.
"Did Skeeter leave?" Starlene asked picking up her glass of brandy from the coffee table and taking a sip as she watched her sister walk into the living room.
"Yeah," Tiffany said stopping at the coffee table to pour herself a glass of brandy before taking a seat in the chair nearby.
"How did it go with Skeeter?"
"Well, you know when I was at his apartment and we were talking he seemed nervous that Jan would come by there. So I left."
"Tiffany why did you go to his apartment to begin with?"
"To talk to him."
"You guys have been separated for years.  Why do you need to talk to him?"
"I don't know.  I wouldn't have if it hadn't been for him stopping by where I worked. Things just got started between us."
"When the two of you were alone?"
"Yeah."
"Did he kiss you?"
"Yeah."
"How did it feel after all of these years?"
"Not as great as I had remembered but I still felt it.  You know what I mean?"
"Yeah. I think so. What are you going to do now?"
"Let it go.  I mean I was willing to try and talk it over with him, but I could tell he was so nervous that Jan might come by and catch us alone. Maybe he does care for her."
"Skeeter just couldn't love Jan Morgan. There's no way," Starlene said putting her feet up on the coffee table.
"He says he doesn't love her. He said that she bought the engagement ring and just sprung this whole engagement thing on him."
"She's the ultimate control freak," Starlene said.
"What does Stanley say about this?" Tiffany asked referring to her sister's lover and Jan's father.
"That he won't allow this wedding to happen."
"Really?"
"That's what he said."
"Oh.  I didn't know that. He acts as if he's not bothered so much when I'm around."
"It's an act Tiffany. It's all an act.  He's very upset about this," Starlene said knowingly.
"Really?"
"Yes he's embarrassed that his daughter would become engaged to Skeeter."
"Is that what he says?" Tiffany asked, her voice filled with resentment.
"Yeap."
"Because Skeeter doesn't have money. I guess that's what makes him so ashamed," Tiffany said feeling angry for her estranged husband.
"I think so.  Stanley says he's just not the 'class' that he wants his only daughter to marry. At least that's what he told me," Starlene said.
"I hope Skeeter didn't run into Stanley in the lobby tonight after I left him there," Tiffany said starting to feel sorry for her estranged husband.
"Me too," Starlene said laughing. "What are you doing?" Starlene asked as she watched her sister pick up her cell phone and start dialing.
"Calling Skeeter to be sure he got home okay," Tiffany said as the phone started to ring in his Bleecker Street apartment.
