Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Tuesday January 7th 2003
"Clark you mean you hired Greg because you
don't like him?"  Tiffany asked as she watched her boss peeping from behind the living room drapes to watch his wife and her secret young lover Greg standing at the curb.
"Well, we need someone to run errands sometimes," he said avoiding her last statement.
"But you just said you hired him because you don't trust him and want to keep an eye on him," Tiffany said repeating his last remark.
"Have you seen him around while I've been out of town?" Clark asked as he watched Nicole smiling and touching the sleeve of Greg's jacket as the two stood at the gate outside the townhouse.
"I've seen him around some… he's a neighbor," Tiffany said starting to feel uncomfortable with the line of questioning.
"I mean has he ever knocked on the door or anything like that?" Clark asked glancing towards Tiffany.
"I don't remember, maybe."
"Maybe?"
"Why do you ask Clark?"
"I was upstairs the other day and I thought the paperboy knocked on the door," he said watching as Nicole and Greg walked a few steps on the sidewalk then stopped to talk again.
"So you thought he was the paper boy?" Tiffany asked curious to hear more of the events while she was out for the holidays.
"Yeah and I sent Nicole downstairs to give the paper boy his holiday tip.  I overheard them talking some," Clark said as he watched Greg slip his arm around Nicole's waist as they walked towards the curb.
"What happened?"
"I just overheard some of the conversation."
"What did you hear?"
"I just thought I heard Nicole trying to get rid of him and something about her husband finding out.  I don't know what all they said.  I just got a little worried about it after seeing him around a few times."
"So you hired him."
"I walked out and caught him at the curb and asked him if he'd been at my door.  He said he was looking for work.  He wanted to earn some money clearing the sidewalk."
"And you believed him?"
"Well, he's a student.  So I decided to hire him part time so I could keep an eye on him," he said as he watched Nicole get into a cab and Greg wave goodbye.
"Why didn't you just confront him," Tiffany said as she watched Clark walk away from the window.
"Don't you think he'd lie if he was up to something?"
"What do you think he's up to Clark?"
"Making a pass at my wife," he said taking a seat on the sofa and picking up his paperwork from the coffee table.
"Do you think Nicole's interested?"
"No.  I trust her.  He's the one I can't trust."
"What would you do if your suspicions are on target?"
"I don't know Tiffany," he said glancing up with a serious expression on his face.
"Would you want to know if Nicole cheated on you Clark?"
"I think so, why?"
"Well…" she said looking down to avoid his eyes.
"Is there something you want to tell me?"
