Soap Opera "As The Mouse Moves" - Wednesday December 18th 2002
"Is that you Tiffany?"  Starlene called out when she heard the front door of the apartment close.
"Yeah, it's me," Tiffany said taking off her coat and hanging it on the coat rack in the hallway of their apartment overlooking Washington Square Park.
"How did it go?  Did you get your job back?" Starlene asked as she watched her sister walk into the living room and take a seat in a nearby chair.
"Yes I did," Tiffany said taking off her high heels and kicking them under the coffee table.
"What did he say?" Starlene asked referring to the meeting between Tiffany and Clark. Clark had fired her and then called and asked her to come back to the office to discuss her employment.
"Well, he never accepted the fact that I hadn't done anything wrong to begin with."
"I thought you said you weren't going to work for him any longer if he didn't apologize."
"Starlene I might have made a big mistake," Tiffany said leaning back in the chair exhausted from the meeting.
"What do you mean?"
"Nicole took over the meeting after Clark caught her standing outside of the front door talking with the next door neighbor Greg."
"He caught her huh?" Starlene asked, her eyes widening.
"Yeah, she wasn't wearing anything but a white silk robe that you could see through when Clark came back from Starbucks with our coffee.  I saw them arguing after Greg left, but then they dropped the conversation because I was there."
"Do you think he knows that she's foolin' around with that guy?"
"No.  I think he's suspicious of Greg but trusts her."
"What a sucker."
"Well, maybe I'm a sucker too."
"Why?"
"Because she rehired me over Clark's objections and I accepted."
"Well why did you do that?"
"I accepted because she gave me a bonus and said she only expected loyalty."
"Bonus?"
"How much?"
"A lot," Tiffany said taking the check from her purse and handing it to her sister.
"Oh wow! Tiffany this is wonderful!" Starlene said her eyes widening as she wondered if her sister had purchased her Christmas gift yet.
"I shouldn't have taken it."
"Are you crazy!  How could anyone turn down a check like this?"
"Yeah, but now I'm controlled by her."
"Just cash the check and do what ever you want, that's all."
"She insisted that if I accepted it that I would have to be loyal. I know that means keeping my mouth shut about her affair with that young neighbor."
"What Clark doesn't know won't hurt him, let's go shopping!" Starlene said looking at the check again in disbelief.
"Starlene, I just feel bought now."
"Oh get out of here.  It's not your problem what she does.  You deserve the money."
"I don't feel right," Tiffany said thinking about the fact that she had wanted to tell Starlene that Nicole had cheated with her lover Stanley.  Being truthful with her sister was out of the question now.
"You'll feel better at the bank," Starlene said as the phone rang and she quickly picked it up.
